hi there guys. i am seeking some advice of which poly to install. The white poly is cheaper here and some have said it slides better and much harder BUT it is not UV resistant and cracks. so, how long does it last? how does other poly compare?

thanks.

well this I probably not much help but y new boat has white and the old one has yellow I have no idea where the yellow came form but with my limited experience I like the yellow as it seems to be a better product but that is just my opinion and we all know everyone has one

I used it the first two times. 2 & 1/2 years both time. MY boat is parked under a car port on concrete but the Sun could get to .The white stress crack. Looked like mud cracking . & then broke . Went to black still there after 9 years. The black should be cheaper.

gold - ur opinion is well appreciated regardless how deeply it is backed by experience. it served its purpose, thank you for sharing.

db - thanks for the website!

Moritz - hmmm.... just 2 & 1/2 years for the white  have you even got to use or worn it out first before you replaced it or the cracking got to it first? that's a bad issue for a polymer to be breaking off!

It cracked & broke when running. Never wore it out . I Run the Boat about 60 Days a year. We run Sand oyster shell by mistake & ground.

I had a white sheet last 4 yrs finally wore a hole in it . it was starting to crack a little bit next sheet was 6.5 ft wide came in a roll it lasted 18 months not happy with it. it seemed softer and heated up quick not happy with it I have a diamondback alum hull now and it was new didn't get 2 yrs out of it it might be me cause my boat don't sit in the driveway good luck.

Most all of us here in Cocoa run the black stuff. I have had it last six years before. It all depends on where, and how long you run the hill. Our landing just past Lone Cabbage is so bad that I have to take the boat and truck all the way down to the edge of the river to launch. If I was to run the boat down to the water, my poly wouldn't last six weeks because of all rocks, glass, steel, and pieces of brick embedded in the dirt. :x

If you want to do it right go with the black polymer. IMO

If you are looking for a bulk discount let me know I can ship however much you need. We have special 100ft rolls made for us of UHMW Black Polymer.

I have heard that the stuff that comes in rolls is softer than the 5x10 sheets. I have ran black and gray but could not tell a difference.

Your right, if your buying the regular rolls stuff.

We have special UHWM made for use that is welded together and cut to our dimensions.

How hard is it to get the SS screws out after they have been in for 5 years or more in stat water. Do you haave to weld up the holes & start over?

What condition are the holes if you used nuts & how many leaks?

I hit the wrong button. After dropping in the screw the bottom side person puts on the washer and nylon lock nut. The topside uses a battery drill to tighten while the bottom side holds nut with a wrench or socket. It is not a fast way to do it but it works. I have the topside squirt a little silicone in the hole before inserting the screw and have not had any leaks to date. The installment of the polymer on my 16x7.5 takes a day plus the tear down and reassembly of the rigging. This is for aluminum hulls.

I don't know what happened but the first part of the post was to strip the rigging to the hull, flip it upside down on a car lift, saw horses, remove the old polymer, lay the new on and let it settle in the sun. Get some one to help on the topside, drill up from the inside, countersink from the top and put in screw.

Are you drilling the hole the same size as the screw? What about tapping threads through the hull and then screwing in the bolts, is this a better way?
