How much does a 220 gpu weigh?

I am trying to figure out how much my 220 gpu weighs. I really do not want to pull it off and try to find a scale to get it weighed. Any info will help, thanks RICH. :?:

It's supposed to be 12qts. but alot of people say not to run more the 10qts., you end up losing the last 2 quarts out the breather hose depending on how its run.

Larry

Larry is right, most the aircraft style 6 cylinders can take 12 quarts, but all of them will not keep it in them. And it is different from one engine to the next. And it appears to depend on how hard you are running it.

Thanks Larry.Answers alot of my questions. My oil loss first couple hours of running is always high.I aways start off with 12 quarts.

I have my crankcase breather coming from out of the top of the block inbetween the stater and alt. going down and out the side of cage.

Cracker, thanks for the link, I can't belive that it weighs that much, that heavy P.O.S. lol. Oh well, i can't do anything about it now, just have to deal with it. J.C. Stanley sells the kit to remove the big oil pan, and put a cut down pan for the 220 on it. My questions is it worth it from the weight stand point, and will it affect my oil, or cooling system.

Also, Larry is right, I run between 10-12 qts, but if it has 12 qts, it ends up on my rudders, but it does make my rudders look nice and shiney!

Hey Larry, how is your 220 boat running? This is Rich, Chris's buddy. How are you doing with the motor you are building? I am getting ready to build another boat after Memorial Day. I have a new hull already.

Bobby, I find that when the breather comes out of the case in the rear you need to run some kind of air/oil seperator inline with it. The crankshaft is spinning directly below that area of the case and it will pump oil mist right out of the motor very easily, same is true when the breather is run off the front govoner block-off plate with all the timing gears. The best place I have fond for a breather is to weld a fitting on the oil fill neck and run it off there, that seems to be the furthest place from any moving parts. It seems to work well on my dads boat, never has any oil dripping fro the breather line and he runs it at a full 12qts. all the time.

Hey Rich, the new motors going slow, byt what doesnt. I should be picking up a my new hull soon hopefully. As for the iol pan I would be careful on the, the stock oil pan design with the corregated tube carries alot of heat out of the oil in the sump, I have heard on the modified pans running hotter. We were gonna try a scoop on the inlet with a slash cut outlet on the pan to see if it becomes a little more effecient, but the boat has never run hot enough tp worry about.

Larry

Larry, glad to hear that it is still going, even if it is going slow. what kind of hull are you getting?
Chris said that he is looking for a new hull.
I just got a 11 x 7 combee, I am going to build that after i go to Kissimme for Memorial Day. Chris is going along with about 4 other boats, Dave is going as well, if you want, pack some things and head up with us for the weekend.
Dave is getting ready to start on a new boat as well. He has a good lead on a boat with a 220 the runs like a raped ape with a 5 blade. It is a complete boat with trailer, but the hull is wasted.

ABOUT 7-8 MONTHS AGO JC STANLEY OVER-HAULED MY E-225, AND PUT ANGLE VALVE 0-470 CYLINDERS ON IT... Very pleased with the motor, puts out an honest 260 horsepower!!! Only troble i had was it would blow oil out of the blow-by tube very bad, i called him and he said being it too him..I took it over to him and he found out it was the way my blow by was hooked up, i had a peice of hose running from the case to a peice of conduit welding to my cage, that came out of the top.. he ran a stright peice of hose the same way but it was conected to conduit.. He also put a little peice of tube off the oil filler neck, and ran a vinalation hose from there too!! Very please with thE motor its a beast AND DOESNT BLOW ANY OIL, IT HOLDS A MAX 10 QUARTS.. Cant wait untill its on the new PREDATOR!!

I can't believe nobody seems to be running synthetic oil in the aircraft engines. It resists atomization much better than petroleum oil and should be great for keeping the oil IN the old oil foggers.

An added benefit is that it doesn't break down at high temp like petroleum will

The problem with synthetic oils is it doesnt keep the lead deposits from the av-gas in suspension, letting it accumulate into sludge that clogs up the oil passages. Mobil is facing an ongoing problem right now because of this very problem with the av-1 oil they released that has caused problems, especially with the turbo 520-550 continentals.

In a pump gas burning GPU it should still be the ticket though
