How much weight can you carry

On my skiff there is a sticker that says x number of people or x amount of weight. Typically this translates into some non-corn fed sized people. There’s no such sticker on the airboat.

I see some boats rollin around with some Polk county sized people. Seems too much for the boat but the boats gettin along good. What’s the rule of thumb here? I would think this would greatly alter these boats handling conditions.

Lol..I can carry a.cooler and two in seat behind and one on the toe stand..as long as the water is kinda skinny

Well as the Captain of your vessel is what ever you feel comfortable with most airboaters know there boats know how to load there boats to handle the load airplanes are the some way if you have big boys in the front seat they move weight to the back of the plane this is just small planes like cessna style airplanes balance balance balance is the key

Well yes and no there was a sticker with max number of people on my hull when I picked it up but not a weight. I load my boat down for camping but I am not burning up the ground. What's worse than weight is sloshing water in a boat. I can run with 4 people the boat prefers 2.

My boat was built for hulling weight in deep water or so a drunk could drive me out if I was hurt and not sink my boat.

Those coast guard recommendations tell you how many people or how much weight to be safe. Since airboats are inherently not safe, the sticker could only say 0 passengers!!!

This I agree with. I have one buddy (retired NYer of course) that mentioned being interested in an airboat ride and asked if it was safe. I said the machine is inherently unsafe and there is no way I can insure safety (the big giant prop right behind the seats should be the clue). Since I won't guarantee on my piloting skills I gave him a few phone numbers for commercial glades tour operators (with big insurance policies) and suggested he give them a call. He told me they were too expensive, I wonder why. :banghead:

Just like my cave diving days, best kept to a smaller community. :violent1:

Well being a Search & Rescue guy I have had times where I had to transport as many as possible but I still do it in a safe way, its all about how much they weigh and where to position them in the boat just like an Airplane its all about weight and balance even then I try to stay at safe speeds and most of the time its in shallow water, I try to keep the weight as close to the middle of the boat so I can get on a plane with out a lot of trouble, it all comes with experience and stick time and I got plenty of that when we worked Katrina
