Hurricane Rita Grinds to Screeching Halt

Gbenzx

Well-known member
This is exactly what hurricane Celia did & made a 100 degree left turn into Corpus Christi & unconstructed our new home @ 165mph :(

It is very unusual for a storm tobe moving at 15mph & stop suddenly as it has done. The pressure differential that caused this can be expected to move it in any direction at any time.

Best watch this Bugger Bear & hope. Pray :)

Thnx, Gben

Gbenzx,

Agreed about watching this one!

This could probably "topple' our bustling economy if it hits as a cat-4 cane.

Prayers are in order.

Praise, it did not stay put & has regained forward motion toward the original direction :)

Basket you may be hitting close to what most have not even considered especially when Mr Green Spam & Co have just decided it is such a good time to raise interest rates. They show 175mph sustained which most likely results in gust & twister speeds of well over 200mph.

Notice that the networks continue to advise where the eye of the storms are going tobe. Their prediction of Rita to arrive at the shore of Texas is almost a day after the leading edge will have already arrived :(

I believe Mr Hatfield at NWS tobe one of the best people to ever happen for them. But he needs to mend the forcast headlines abt Eye vs Real storm arrival times.

Pat, gather anything that will float & head out :)

Jim, thnx for the reminder didn't thimk abt that. When I realized Rita had stopped guess my beany did too :(

Thnx, Gben

Rick,

I'm always on NOAA but didn't know there were links to the buoys!

32 feet waves! Don't want no one to go through that!

That buoy link shows the current info. The storm seems to be past that bouy. But earlier today that buoy was recording 38 foot waves!!!!

It shows the pressure still dropping.

They say there is 15 years left in this "cycle" of storms?

Yikes. :(

Man, I hadn't thought about those waves in Lake George for awhile. I didn't think I'd ever get around those docks.

On another note: Faron, I sure am hoping everything works out alright with that darn storm. Looks like it's coming in at the worst possible place for ya'll right now.

Mood,

I saw 40 seas, (90 ft. swells) in the N. Atlantic while in the Navy. That was in a 360 ft. sub and on a "target" (LSD ship). Pretty scary stuff. It would "suck the sub to the surface from 150 feet below!

Faron, Hope ya'lls shop and family makes it through ok. Gotta ask myself what did the USA do to piss off GOD so bad?

Thnx Guys for the links :)

Thought I was always an early riser but some of you must wake the rooster every mornin :)

Rick the 4am track chart looks better & worse at the same time?
Almost centered over Orange Tx near La border & Faron's Airboat Plant :(

And Faron I can imagine what must be going on in your mind abt now & your Dad. Not the best to say the least! The central pressure is down for the moment but water temps usually rule these beasts.

NWS is today advertising the CORE of Rita to arrive upon the coasts of Tx & La this afternoon & tonight. Core prediction is encouraging & maybe the tv media folks will pickup on this :) This should have been shouted yesterday & the day before.

Pat is not checking in as he may have already checked out :)
But can ya'll imagine sitting in a line of traffic over 100 miles long :(

My question is WHO built these NWS buoys that can negotiate 60ft waves?
Were they built at Orange Tx? Cocoa Fl? Floral City? :D

Thnx, Gben

Oops, Basket you & I must have been peckin at the same time & Yes abt God :(

I used to do alot of offshore sailing one night on a 56' sailboat I was in 20-25 foot seas with hurricane force winds and I lost tiller control 3 times this is caused by the waves breaking and jacking the rudder out of the water the boat then turns sideways and slides down the face of the wave the scary part was when you got to the bottom of the wave was not knowing if the boat would catch so you could steer again or roll when sailing in these conditions you wear a harness and a jack line so you will not get washed away

Well, it does look pretty bad on the radar for my family and shop. Pretty much all of my Tx family have evacuated except for my Dad. He is waiting a little longer but I will urge him as much as possible to go ahead and get out this morning. Thanks for your prayers guys. There are lots of people who need it.
"I think my father doesn't want to leave because he has offered to donate boats to our local fire dept. to fight the flood water after the storm." He is worried if he leaves he might not be able to get back in.

Thank you for all your support and please keep your fingers crossed.
Sincerely,
Faron Floyd
