Hurricane Work

I was wondering if anyone here went to Louisiana or Mississippi because they had been contacted by a contractor promising pay. I have talked to some others like myself that seem to have been given the shaft by a certain contractor. If there are enough responses to this inquiry I am thinking that we should create a web-site that individuals can go to for information and to try and put a stop to this so that it does not happen again in the future.

Yes I went and I have not gotten a word I even E mailed them and never got any thing back

I'm in the same boat as Sniper. e-mails nor phone calls are returned..
Yes, I went down there as a volunteer fully expecting to "eat" all expenses and damage. But upon arrival I was informed we would be working under C-5. I understand the fact that the paperwork will be slow for something like this, but some communication would be real nice...
We're left in the dark to wonder what's going on.

Come on CAT-5, atleast talk to us........

I agree with you Brian,it would be nice to a least be reinburst for our expenses and the heavy maintenance that I had to do on my boat after the Rescue opperation.

El Gato Negro de Cinco got all my info - name & add., liability ins., FL#s, boat descript, etc, etc - and was to call back immediately with "deployment authorization #" - total silence since then. Same story with three other Capts. from Homosassa. Kinda wondering if we were ghost invoiced to FEMA?????

Friend of ours on official business saw uno senior de Mexico with a El Gato Negro de Cinco Tshirt on in SoFL last week.

You have to wonder. I was in the same boat as you Bigdaddy. They got a faxed copy of my liability, info on the boats, etcc.. As always the most important thing you can do is get it in writing. Fortunately I already learned that leason, and was not going until I had something in writing ( I understand those that did go, went expecting nothing and hats off to you guys for helping your neighbor).

CFTH - Me, too. Contract promised, never quite arrived, but Gato Negro HAD to have all the info first. I spent about 2K upgrading equipment for that truly hazardous duty. My decision. I would have volunteered in a nano - but, simply could not shoulder that financial burden. Like you, my airboat is a work tool first. The expense involved, the risk of significant or total loss and all the unanswered questions....made it a decision I simply could not make.

We will have a Professional Airboat Resource Team for National Emergency Response as one outcome of this fiasco.. If there is FEMA money for operating costs and equipment wear and tear available, it will be sought; if there is none, those who can afford to help will be given that opportunity.

Big daddy,

I hope for the sake of those honest souls left in the world like Sniper, Bigkavr and everyone else who volunteered that the organization being spoken of did/does not bill our government for services rendered.

It would be a "tar and feathering" as far as I'm concerned if our fellow airboaters work were to be in vain! Is there any way to track such contractors billing?

That is sad about that person just now getting their FEMA check because everyone here who had damage last year got their checks within a 2 week period. They must have lost their information maybe but that is the first time I heard that.

While I was in Ft Pierce for WILMA, I saw a guy with the CAT 5 shirt and hat. I didn't speak with him though. So, I guess they do exist...at least enough to have some shirts and hats made up.

Scout,

We had seen a guy in N.O. on TV with one of the shirts you are refering to when Katrina had hit.

We got "mass mailed" here in Collier County this Tuesday with everyone here getting a "flyer" attached to the exterior of the mailbox from FEMA. Wonder what else they can waste money on?!

Several useless policies being pursued here which are wasting our tax dollars by "big brother". I'd much rather send this money to our troops abroad who deserve it much more, (body armor, more ammo, etc.).

I with you Basketcase more ammo and Body armor and more Snipers
I have a few buddys over there and they are racking up some unbelievable scores Carlos Hathcock would be proud they said it is like a giant varmit hunt.
