Impressive Mufflers

I've uploaded a short video of cntry141iq's airboat, showing him showering down on it, at the Lake Okeechobee run. He just installed a new cross-over type of exhaust system that he's been working on. Look like it works to me, all I hear is the prop and that's a hopped up Chevy (383 stroker I believe).

Here's the link: http://www.southernairboat.com/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/1223

I have a few more videos & pics from the monthly run to post when I get a chance.

The engine noise in the video at the beginning is not my boat it is the aircraft boat that just went by. I have about $ 650.00 in that system and I didnt do the work I just picked out the parts and supervised the installation.

It uses a true-x crossover pipe and the mufflers are three chambered with no insulation in them. They are not FLOWMASTERS which are echo chambers and dont flow all that well. They are not straight thru either like MAGNA FLOW which is not that quiet either. They are some no name brand that we found.

For more informnation call Pat @ CUSTOM EXHAUST in Bradenton FL.

The only thing I lost in the process was the noise. My boat may actually get up quicker and still spins the prop just as fast for maximum RPM as before and I am putting more pitch in it because I am turning it over what WHIRLWIND suggests.

It is possible to quiet the boats down and not lose power in fact you may gain torque which will help get you up faster. The props are getting quieter and one aircraft motor guy said they may be the ones in trouble because I am a lot quieter than they are.

So what ya'll gonna do ?? fish or cut bait.

Too bad you don't know the name of the muffs. I am at a loss for which ones to use. I'm now thinking my Morosos are too loud.

Glad to hear you went ahead with the crossover pipe. That is truly the way to go. Everyone should have them on their airboats for both torque and sound reduction.

Rick,

I saw Cntry's boat before the muffler install. I can't tell any loss in horsepower at all, (he can still ride down the road to 7-11 for sodas for us if he wants)!

The boat is much, much quieter!

Red, I agree with the crossover pipe completely!

2.09 With a blaster . Jim , dont know rpms . He is starting the hush deal . I am following his deal , Me and 141 reside same woods . We already got the poctalage exam here a few years ago . If we pass gas its got to between 800 and 600 Just fact

Jim sorry I missed your question I am running a 2.09 stinger and was turning my motor 5000 in the video. my prop is a master blaster from whirlwind which is rated for 2250 and I was turning it about 2400

I need to get video of my boat with the mufflers on it when i get it fixed. it's quite I use 3" car mufflers that where about $21.00 each

cntry,

If you can slow that prop down to 2250, I think you will have a really quiet boat. You might need a bigger gear if you lose too much power. You will eventually want a bigger gear anyway, because I'll bet you end up with an LS1. I would like to see you take that boat to the FAA meeting July 9 to show them what can be done to quiet one down without spending a ton of money which a lot of people are worried about.

It would be cool if we could talk one of the airplane engine guys into trying the crossover exhaust and possibly a turbo warp drive prop.

If we could get everyone to quiet their boats the complainers lose their complaint. I congratulate you for being willing to experement.

Jim

It wasnt that noisey 141 , Rick must have had the zoom on his cam on :D It didnt sound like that in real life I was rite there , 2 ft from Rick

fatboy0054,

He mentioned adding more pitch in his previous post to get the rpm down a little closer to the manufacturers recommendation. My comment was based on that.

How is the shroud coming, and do you want a technical reference on shroud design?

Jim

I was there it was so sweet sounding that didn't know that is was running till I saw his boat movin. But mine was so loud you can here the dumb thing two towns away. But I will get muffs on it like you told to do 141.

That engine noise in the background is misleading. There were other boats running that were closer, but couldn't be seen in the video.

Everyone knows that airboat noise is a two-part problem (engine/prop). This is the first boat I've seen that seems to have completely taken care of the engine noise without losing performance.

The mufflers are FLO-PRO # 3020, I dont know if you can get them except from a muffler shop but surely you can. I dont know if mufflers alone will do it mine is a whole system. There should be some pics up soon if they are not already up. The mufflers retailed for 42.50 each the true-x crossover was 75 retail. The two flex joints were 33 each retail and they are double woven stainless, no corrugated pipe in them at all the ones with the pipe in them dont last as long I am told.

Here's those pics:

looks awsome sounds good I did think about doing that to mine but took the cheap way out. I was not sure how it would sound or run.

jim mine won't be ready for the faa ride on the 9 I just took the engine to the michine shop today don't know how long it will take to get it back, and then build the engine, and put it all back together i'm going to try
