just wanted to take a poll and hear pro's and cons on the subject of boat plugs inside or outside.i know the deckover guys have no chioce i think not sure. just curious where your plugs are.

I keep mine on the inside. A buddy of mine had his on the outside and lost one the last week of duck season. When they are not in the boat I keep them on a D-ring cliped to the wire under my seat. that way I never have to hunt for them.

For storing the plugs try this:
Get a 6 inch piece of aluminum angle, drill three holes in it the same size as the drain hole plug on one edge and 2 3/8 inch holes on the other edge. Bolt it to seat box and store the plugs there, with a spare one as well. Always in sight to make sure they are there and you have a spare one in case you lose one. Bead blast it for a nicer look.

Was with some guys and we smoked an ignition switch one night, but the engine was still running, then took in lots of water playing. Entire electrical system, including bilge wasn't working, but plugs were accessable and we beached her and drained it then went home. He killed it at the trailer and she wouldn't start. Started me installing the in the outside.

Use the screw plugs versus the T-handle plugs, never have lost one.

Put them on a snap link (caribiner), and snap it into the bow eye on your boat ..... you'll never drop it in the water again without them in. Keep two spares. One to use, and one to lose.

Bondsman,

Think i hit the wrong button  I keep them on the outside and have two spares within sight on a caribiner. Agree with mwood and marshmaster pat that they are so cheap, but such a necessity!

I keep mine on the Inside... with hunting running a lot of dry.. weeds murtels ect. I don't want anything snaging them and pulling them out with me not knowing it

inside on fiberglass hull on my deckover it has pipe plugs which install from outside dought they will ever fall out thou.
tripple w told me he likes to have them put in 2 inch bung holes for easier draining when he orders a hull. i think its a great idea. someday i should be so lucky to afford to order myself a hull.

I always inserted mine from the inside of the hull when running. I used 1"x2" wire for the box under the seats and the plug snaps right into the wire when not in use.

Inside so they don't get removed accidentally from ice or brush. Plus they are easier to find if they do come out.... Just remember to have the boat shut OFF before checking them.--Batteries too.

Ditto on what Ron said.. Ice and rocks WILL remove an external plug.
They (ice and rocks) sit in waiting, just ready to pluck the unsuspecting plug from the hapless hull......

As for the part about shutting down the engine BEFORE inserting/removing the plugs. If that's not self explanitory, then it's natural selection.................. :D
