Is this a deal??

My brother-in-law is looking to buy a starter boat. Last night we found an 11ft Slipshot hull with polymer, with 2 seats, all metalworks, and a tore down lycoming 150. The motor needs a new crankshaft and a valve is stuck. Total price is $1500. I would guess and say that to get the motor running would be $500 or less and then he needs a prop too.

I think this is a good deal from the sound of it but I haven't seen the rig yet. I was wondering if anyone has ever had any experience with a Slipshot hull before? He would be using it solely to hunt off of... just him (160 lbs) and his gear.

When you consider that applied polymer on any boat is at least $750. This sure sounds like a deal to me. OFL/SAO Rick is an expert on 4 cyl Lycoming cranks - he just replaced one, I believe. I think the 150 case will also accept 160, 180 or 200 cyls. Even if the hull were to be bad, the complete running gear and metal works is worth a chunk.

Thats what I was thinking. The guy said that the hull is in good shape and that all it needs is the motor to be fixed and a prop. I figure that even if it needs glass work it would be ok.

I've just never heard of a "Slipshot" hull before.

Sounds like a decent deal to me. I never heard of that hull either. If you decide against it, let me know I might be interested in it. Good luck, Cajun
