was just looking at possibly getting a larger lycoming engine, thought I might get some advice on where to purchase one. Currently running the o320, thanks in advance

There are usually several 360 and 540 used engines in the classifieds. Just depends how deep your pockets are. If your engine is a wide deck then you can overhaul it and make it a 200hp fairly easy. Most of the 320 stuff interchanges with the 360 stuff. IE. cases, accessory case, mags, starter, flywheel, oil sump and more.

Your idea and my idea of easy are a lot different. 0360 is a bigger bore than 0320. Cases are not interchangeable. Rods are longer in 0360 and will work in a 0320 but cheaper to just put bigger pistons in it.
If you want a 180 buy the 180. In the long run it will be a lot less headaches.

Gary if it is a wide deck O-320 the cases are interchangeable. I have personally converted several of these engines to O-360. Change crank, rods, cylinders, push rods and tubes and you have yourself an O-360. The bolt pattern on the cylinders is the same. Piston Bore is the same. Stroke on crank and length on rods are different. If you go with straight valve cylinders you will use the same rockers and make 180 HP. If you go with angle valve cylinders you'll need to change pistons and rockers and make 200 hp. In the end you know what you have in the motor. If you buy a used engine its a crap shoot.

So your telling me a 0320 is the same bore as a 0360? And you can slide a 0360 crank in a 0320 case, just bolt them up?

Yes sir. Only if it is a wide deck case. The crank hits the inside of the case on the narrow deck. The bore is the same. The pistons are the same. The rings are the same. The rocker arms are the same. Crank, rods, cylinders, push rods and tunes are different.

Is there a way to look up my lycoming serial number and get the exact specs on it? I had someone try while I was asking about used engines and he said it didn't come pull up anything but I have no idea where he was looking. Some may give me hell for this but just gonna be honest as I'm a newbie, I'm not sure if my engine is a straight or angle valve. Anyway all this info is very helpful to me so thanks a bunch, ill post a pic of my engine and maybe some of yall can help, thanks

Narrow deck. Straight valve. From the pics it looks like the case was a solid lifter model adapted to a hydraulic lifter type

I learned something today. I always thought the bore was bigger and that you had to remove material to spin the crank. I stand corrected.
