Jacksonville

I am currently displaced, and probably permanently displaced to Jacksonville, FL. My boat is in Lakeland, where it's been sitting for (gasp) nearly 10 years. I'd love to go get it, clean it up and go riding again, but I do not know of any place in Jacksonville, or the surrounding areas that's airboat friendly. I've seen one airboat in the entire time I've been up here, and it's been sitting in the same marina it's in now since I got here in 2001. Anybody have any ideas? Anywhere close to here(hour drive)?

I know they run them near lake city in the swannee river.there is a air boat shop in the town of o'brien wich is out side of lk cty and they would know where to ride.this person would know Owner: Scorpion Airboats - Lee Hancock
Address: 20875 81st. pl. A
City: O 'Brien
State: Fl.
Zip Code: 32071
Phone: 386-935-1388
Email: scorpionairboats.com

I didn't know Scorpion was in lake city...Aren't they a hull manufacturer as well? Make a deep side hull, kinda loosely based on the old Cottonmouth mold? or am I losing my mind again?

Either way, thanks, I'll check it out. I've got to go get the boat and go through it, change the oil, get a new carb, etc...love them old Lycomings, they last forever.

try going down to the ocklawaha river or salt springs they are in the Ocala national forest you have several springs and the st johns river to run down there

There are plenty of places to run in NE Florida if you're not afraid of deep water, and pay attention to tides and weather. It's a little bit generalized, I think, to say that airboating is only good in skinny water.
Yes, an airboat feels safer and performs better when the water is shallow, but we have some great times up here exploring the creeks off of the upper St. Johns. Black Creek is about a 15 minute run from where we live and has some of the best speck fishin' in this part of the country. Fresh water boating is all within an hour or so, and if you've never run in the surf (Atlantic) on a glass smooth morning then you're in for a treat.

Ya' gotta pay attention to airboat in deeper water, but if you do it has it's own unique rewards.
