The motor and gearbox was a tad lighter then I had exspected. Man this color is bright I gotta wear shades when working on it. You know this boat can't run behind the line the man will see him 10 miles away!

How did you do that? The other picture showed the engine at 415.5 and another picture showed the gear box at 69.2. That adds up to 474.7 to me.

That shoots my theory of taking the empty weight of an engine and adding the accessories fluid weight to get the total weight.

And hear him from 15-20 miles away

That weight differance is because they are two differant gearbox.s. If you look cloosly at the pic the other gearbox is bran new and much wider. The gearbox I weighed alone and posted was the new wider gear gearbox that's rated for 1,000HP it's flywheel is also heavier because it was a soft drive. The gearbox on the motor weighs less because it's a narrow gear and the flywheel is lighter because it doesn't have the soft bushings. Try again!

See how much wider this gearbox is. The gears are heivier also because they are wider. Notice how this gearbox is bran new and shiny! The one on the motor is 3 or 4 years old. I will post a pic of the two differant flywheels too If you don't beleive it's acurate! This is exactly why you must weigh the complete assembly it is the only way to get the correct weight!

Here is a good look at the old narrow gear next to the new wide gear! I beleive the gears are around an inch wider along with the case being bigger!

that is nice to see like that most people would not notice the difference in teh two boxes unless they where side by side like that

Ho is the wife's super 540 coming?

All right, I see the difference. My guess is the smaller lighter unit and parts weighs 50.5 pounds. That added to 415.5 gives us 466. If that is true then my theory of starting with a base weight and adding the sum of its parts to get a total weight still works. So you really don't have to weigh the complete assembly. That means a base empty motor weight is not WORTHLESS. Just my opinion but it looks like there are several ways to come up with a total weight and no information is worthless if it is clearly defined.

I'm going to install the belt drive on the Caddy Monday and I will post it. I only do complete weights because it's the only way to do a fair comparison. Plus people tend to quote differant weights and leave out the information about what was left off or missing! I'm just trying to truly give the exact complete weight so airboaters can make the right choice for them based on facts and not urban legend!
