K-WAY gear reduction units

I'm looking at a boat that has a K-WAY gear box on it. I've not heard anything good, bad, or indifferent about them. Does anybody know anything about them?? Or has had good or bad luck with one??
 
I think you can get them no more ,no parts , no nothing . I know they would fit any motor app s.A Friend of mine still runs one !Let me say they quit making them !
 
I am currently running one on my boat (2.08-1). It was on the boat when I bought it over 3 years ago. I have put over 240 hours on it had no problem. I change the oil every 30 hours or so. It leaks a little around the rear seal, but not even enough to drip. There is a magnet in the drain plug and I check for signs of wear (chips or shards of metal gear teeth) and there is only a little metal dust (I guess this is normal wear). It does make alot of noise at low rpm and recently got a little louder, but when the oil gets up on the top gear it quiets down. I know these things have a limited lifespan, but I don't know how long. Classic used to sell them and they are the only one that I know of that knows anything at all about them and they sell a "special" gear oil for them. It is supposed to be thicker that regular gear oil. I don't know where to get parts or service for them.
 
Have you checked with panther airboats, I was told once that they owned k-way after k-way screwed up somehow and lost a lawsuit with panther airboats. I am not sure if that is true afterall rumors abound in the airboat world but I would give them a call.
