Daddy Dave

Well-known member
Kissimmee River Valley Sportsman's Association is holding an airboaters gathering on Saturday, July 16. Non members will be encouraged to join this landmark organization and raffle tickets to the brand new Diamondback / Jurnigan 0-540 / PowerShift / AirBoatPros Dream Boat will be available. Free food from noon until it runs out. Meeting place is the oak hammock just north of the Catfish Pond. That's in Gardner Marsh - the vast area KRVSA's lawsuit opened to all airboaters. You need not be a current KRVSA member to participate. Ya'll come.

Big Daddy not sher where this place is could you give better dirics.
sound like i may try to show if not to far. I,m always up to meeting new folks.

Hey Guys 'n Gals - the gathering spot is in Gardner Marsh just past the big cabbage palm and due north of the myrtle flat. That should narrow it down a bunch.

Actually, the Catfish Pond is located on the Gardner Marsh main airboat trail at the "turn". This is where the main trail running north down the west side of Gardner from Lake Kissimmee North Cove turns hard left and heads for the south road crossing.

From Lake Hatchineha and BS Hill, run due south across the cove to the main airboat trail, follow it south and east along the edge of the marsh / woods line and continue al the way to the south road crossing. Cross the road and continue about 2 miles to the Catfish Pond / dirt hill on your right. Look due north and you'll see the oak hammock .5 miles away.

There is a large hill of dirt where this pond was dug out of the marsh there as well. From the Catfish Pond it is a short hop due north across the slough to the oak hammock

I'm there.....just need know how to get there. Maybe if a group wanted to start from Camp Mack and follow someone from there, that would work out nicely.

some people also call the catfish pond billy goat ridge or the fishin hole just in case this helps anyone

I'll be coming from North of Tampa. Where would be a good place to lanch and follow some one there?

If you put in at Camp Mack, take the canal away from the ramp heading left or away from the main buildings. When you reach the main river turn left and head toward Hatchineha.

Follow the edge of the lake around to the right...you''ll pass a little building with sheet metal sides(the Yacht Club) and the remains of an old dock. Keep hugging the right side shore and you''l near the canal heading toward Cypress. Look along the right shore line south of the hill and you'll see a large single tree(not sure what type but it's right at the entrance to the airboat trail).

Take this trail into Gardner Marsh. It's well established so you shouldn't get lost. After a nice ride you'll come to the south road crossing. That's just what it is.. a road crossing. It's not diffucult and once your over it stay on the trail and you'll come the the catfish pond(or square pond, or bar pit whatever, it's the same place.) I would imagine there will be a bunch of people out there at this point so you should have no problems finding the place. If not, when you reach the pond look to your left and you can see where the trails split. Look beyond that and you'll see the Oaks. The place is large so you can't miss it.

I'm playing Army up here at Camp Blanding for a few weeks so I can't make it. Everyone have fun and be safe.

A1mudpuppy, We will be leaving from Tampa early Saturday morning and trailering over. You can follow us if you wish.

Camp Mack is a very busy place every Sat. They will most likely have at least one bass tournament going on, regular recreational boating traffic and airboaters. Luckily, they have plenty of vehicle parking there. The marsh is in great shape, so every airboat can make this one.

KRVSA is hoping for a great turnout. Once again, the food will be free while it lasts.

Burgers and Uncle John's Pride smoked sausages (Thanks, Crofton and Sons) We will encourage all who attend to join our club ($35. / yr) and to purchase the willing raffle ticket to our dream airboat (5 for $20.).

Bid Daddy, Thanks for the invite, What time and which way are you going across. Are you taking Hwy 60 across? I may take US 98 down to Hwy 60 then across.

Best route from Tampa is: I-4 east to Polk Parkway, PPw east to Hwy. 98 south to Bartow, Hwy. 98 south to Hwy. 60 east to Boy Scout Camp Road north, to Camp Mack Road east.

If you are coming down Hwy. 98, we could meet you at Mike's Restaurant in Bartow.

a1mudpuppy......that first map shows the trail's beginning. If you're with BigDaddy you won't get lost.

GBen....no, I haven't had a chance to ride there yet. Don't know if I'll bring the boat up again or not.

Mike's is just north of 60 on 98 South on the east side of the road. It's across the street from Checkers. I'll meet ya'll there too if it's not a big deal. The Green Limousine's been running right for a change, so I'm looking forward to getting out there.

Come one come all , just let me know a time to be their. I don't know how much long it will take from Mike's to Camp Mack.

KRVSA is restocking the barbque in advance of a great turnout. Yep, that's right. KRVSA has restocked with plenty more food hoping for a huge turnout in Gardner Marsh. Uncle John's Pride summer sausages, hot dogs and hamburgers are on the menu. Bring your own beverages.
I have to run a morning charter in Sarasota, so I'll be there a little late.

Harry T Fireman (Nextel: 161*131350*2 / cell: 813-238-3532) will meet those needing directions at Mike's Restaurant in Bartow at 10:00 AM to lead them to the Catfish Pond / Oak Hammock.
