KRVSA Meeting tonight - Important Issues

Daddy Dave

Well-known member
I know this is out of the Club section...for a reason.

In the past few weeks several important challenges have risen for Florida airboaters and KRVSA seems in the middle of all of them.

1) Osceola County's announced effort to pass a county ordinance concerning airboat sounds - with the provision of an additional ability to impose a curfew on airboat operation on county waters including Lakes Cypress, Kissimmee, Toho, Hatchineha and connecting wetlands.

2) SFWMD pushing FFWCC Officers to write armed trespass citations for individuals hunting below the KRVSA vs.McNamarra established high water lines on Lake Hatchineha.

3) Sudden appearance of "No Trespassing" signs along the northwestern shores of Lake Hatchineha (Walker Ranch / Nature Conservancy lands) in the last day or two - out in the existing airboat trails and far into our navigable waters - can any say "Kissimmee River PUA ??"

If you stand to be affected by any or all of these actions, we ask that you attend and support our efforts. Oh, there'll be free food and soft drinks, too.

Meeting starts at 7:00 PM at the Bartow Civic Center, 2250 S. Floral Ave
Bartow, FL 33830

Big Daddy, I know a few of us tease you from time to time. I do often when I'm around you. I tend to tease people I like.

But if only 1/10th of the airboaters in our State were as dedicated as you, Danny, and a handful of others (you'll see several of them at an FAA meeting) our problems as airboaters would be small.

I just wanted to use this public forum to point that out to others who may not know you, and to thank you for your time, effort, and dedication to the future of airboating in our State.

Sir, I would love to be there tonight, but unfortunately, I'm in Iraq at present. But I was able to download an application and email it to my wife. She has assured me that she put it, along with a check, in the mail last week. I appreciate what ya'll are doing and I hope that everyone realizes that there are alot of people in high places that want nothing less than the complete and total elimination of all airboats. They are patient and will take our rights a little at a time. To the hardcore liberal it looks too much like freedom and must be squashed. (for nature's sake) Please, if you enjoy your freedom, get in the fight and support these guys!

Danny, can't attend meeting tonite but have marked out the evening that is slated in osceola. what can i do to help? I live in ST. Cloud if you need anybody to run around up here. bill

I caught the end of that stew.... WOW. Airboaters can cook. Good stuff.

Harry T. - - I've been getting a lock of that location. Sorry I could not give you this in person last evening.

The address for the Osceola Cty. Commission meeting is:
1 Courthouse Square, Kissimmee FL
Any internet mapping service will provide you with good directions to that address. It is the general area I posted in an aerial photo at the END OF THIS MESSAGE.

The meeting is in the 4th floor commission chambers.

Now, the confusing part....
At the KRVSA meeting, it was said the TIME for the meeting is 1:30 in the afternoon. This website says the board of commissioners meets the first monday of the month at 1:30 and the 3rd monday of the month at 7:00 pm. The first monday of the month was New years day - no meeting. Did this affect their schedule?

I could not find a good phone number in time today. I'll try again tomorrow.

I've also got the email addresses of the FIVE commissioners. I'll post them here soon. One of the higher up fellas ought to write a good sample letter for us VOTERS to email these guys.

matt.

I'll also toss together a little better map... here is the one I already made:

The meeting is scheduled for Jan. 22 at 1:30. It's across the street from the old courthouse on the 4 floor. The parking stinks, you will want to get there a little bit early because you'll have to walk a few blocks.
I plan on being there myself !

Cracker

Is the time Correct 1:30?? Isn't that cute, how many people are going to be able to take off for this meeting? Good planning on the commish's part. Well, I'am going to be there

Bandit that was hardly an oversight ..... councils and commissions pull this crap all the time.
They know darn well that most folks that might oppose them work until 5pm.

You gotta love it. They work for us and they try to screw us every chance they get.

Here is a better map and directions to the place of the meeting...

(this is the google map of the same area in the aerial photo posted earlier)

Yes, they screw the working man on these meetings. But even a politician's gotta have a home life. Let it be during the day. These guys are family men too. We need to remember this and treat them with respect.

At least they have one of their meetings at 7 pm. Just not this one.

At THIS PAGE (click here) there is a great resource of info about the county commission and who they are and how they do business.

There is a calander there. Click our date Jan. 22, 2007 and you 'll see that at 10 a.m. the same day there is a workshop covering RURAL LAND STEWARDSHIP.
Ironic they have this the same day they are trying to restrict sportsmen.

Also note on the above linked page is all 5 commissioners and their email addresses.

I'd like to toss out there a sample letter I wrote.... It's what I would/will send... I'd really like it if someone who is more savvy in this stuff to criticize it for me so I can make it better. Thanks.

Dear Commissioner __________________ .

I am an airboater in Osceola County and ask you to vote against the ordinance ##### (I can't find the ord #) on the agenda for the January 22, 2007 meeting.

This ordinance is unfair to the majority of law abiding sportsmen & women who use the lakes of Osceola County to airboat at night for legal activities.

As a usergroup, we understand that there are some complaints about the sound our vessels make, but please allow us:

1. To take steps to police ourselves thru boater education & peer pressure;
2. Allow technology to catch up and create quieter boats;
3. Allow the STATE LAWS in place already to be enforced.

We do not need additional regulation AT THIS TIME.... We need enforcement of the existing regs and laws.

Thank you,

Yourname Here

thanks.

So far, the only thing I've seen or been able to find is from that newspaper article saying the vote was postponed until Jan 22. There has been no official word from anyone in the Osceola County government as far as I know. We need to get that.

matt.

Well with no or poor parking, should we bring our boats? or just our body's. I'm gonna take off work, see ya there. Dave or Danny if i get lost i'll call you. Scott

No. We're not supposed to bring any boats.

We'll save that activity for a different protest. This one is all polite and respectful to these commissioners.
They have not done anything against us yet.

We need to remember to dress up nice too.
Probably should shy away from the camo tee in favor of a shirt with a collar or better.

As Cracker mentioned - Give yourself some time to walk a block or two into the county Admin bld. In the aerial photo above, you can see good clues as for parking places.
Remember some of these may be gated/restricted parking for employees.

The meeting is at 1:30, but if you want to speak on the record, you probably ought to get there earlier still to talk to Danny B and Big D.
But even if you are not going to speak, having the bleachers on our side of the field full of people is a really big help to the cause.

hope this helps

matt.

Very good advice, Matt. Airboaters that show up in khaki's and nice sport shirts 'break the mold' if you will and make a much different impression than what most of these folks will be expecting.

Thanks.

I agree with Mood's post. This is very important stuff. We will be there, and yes, I will be wearing shoes.
