I have a 103lb. female ridgeback, and your right Mood they are great dogs. Mine would not leave my wifes side while she was pregnant and is very protective of my daughter. I grew up with large dogs and could not live without one to protect the home.

Mood I had a ridge/mastiff mix when my daughter was a baby. He would kill for her. Literally he took down a clydesdale horse that ran at her when she crawled under the fence once. He had to be put down ( broke my heart to do it) because he got to like catchin horses too much and when they had riders on them it got interesting. He was absolutely perfect mannered except for that one little problem he tasted blood and wouldn't quit. Darn dog. I would love to get one again except that I don't have room for one right now and I can't move for a while yet. I would never keep one penned up all the time so I will wait. Great dogs

I know this thread was about LABS but since we are talking about dogs...I will NEVER have anything but an American Bulldog!!! Period!! I ain't talking about a PIT either. An American Bulldog. They are by far the best natured dog I have ever owned and as far as protection...people look into my yard but they decide very quickly that it wouldn't be in their best interests to come into it. I have never seen a breed (as a whole, not just individuals) that is as well mannered and tolerant of children than this one, except maybe a Lab. I would compare them to being a Lab stuck in a Bulldog's body.

Of course. dogs are like motors in that everybody has their favorites and nothing else even compares...

I have some pics of "Rocky" at the house but I'm still up here for another week so it'll have to wait.

Adam,

I kept my sons bulldog for several months. She loved me and folowed me around and liked to lay right at my feet. The only problem was that she had a ton of gas and I wished I could get away from her sometimes.
