AIRBOATING SPORTSMEN DONATE TIME AND RESOURCES TO SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN
Airboating Sportsmen/Conservationists from the Lake County Airboat Club will volunteer their time and resources to provide school children with an airboats’ view of Lake George Forest Management Area on Friday, October 21, 2005. The annual event, a “Walk in the Forest is sponsored by the County of Volusia, the Caribbean Chapter of the Society of American Foresters, and volunteers of the Lake County Airboat Club. School children, their teachers, Volusia County Council members, media representatives and the Airboating Sportsmen will gather at Lake George Forest Management Area Park from 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. The goal is to introduce children to the forest and its resources. The Society of American Foresters will provide instruction on usage of wood products, information on what foresters do, how trees grow, and some basics in wildlife identification and tracking. A barbeque lunch will immediately follow the “walk. For the seventh consecutive year, volunteers from the Lake County Airboat Club will transport children and their instructors into the shallows of Lake George where the forest meets water. The rides will offer the children a unique view of how forest management affects our water resources. Lake County Airboat Club is one of approximately 24 Airboating and Sportsmen’s Conservation organizations statewide that volunteer their time and efforts in service oriented endeavors to their community.

Directions: Located off Highway 17 between Pierson and Seville, FL. Travel approximately two miles past Pierson city limits to County Road 3. Make a Left turn on County Road 3 and then a Right turn onto 9 mile road. Lake George Forest Management Area Park is at the end of the road.
