I hunted Pierce last Sunday night and was sorely disappointed. While it was close to a full moon, the moon had nothing to do with the lack of vegitation. When I first drew this lake, I was told it was full of hydrilla, you could only hunt it with an airboat, and if you hit a gator in deep water you'd lose it in the weeds. Needless to say, this lake has been hit hard by someone with chemicals. There appears to be little vegitation in which gators will hold. Hardly any lilypads were to be found. Didn't matter if you hunted north, south, east or west, just nothing there. I think we maybe saw one 6 footer on the first pass around. Other than than, nothing larger than 2 to maybe 3 feet and very few of them.
I may try again during the make up period, but it really looks like Pierce is a waste of fuel this year. Anyone else out there with Pierce tags, I'd be glad to hear what your experiences have been.
