Last act of defiance

That was me.

Why do you want to work for the Gestappo? :?

Hey moodfood not a bad plan I am not sure you would succeed but if you go easy and stay long enough you could make a difference for a lot of outdoors people attitudes toward the FWC. Which mine constantly swings from screw em I wouldn't piss on em if they were on fire to well maybe they were just having a bad day with some smart ass before they got to me. Typically when I run into them in a one on one situation all is ok but get several of them together and they are buttheads. so depending on how my day has been when I find one stuck or in over their head will have a lot to do with how much if any help I offer them at the time. they have a tough job to do but they often bring the resentment towards them on themselves by their actions to others. we are not all criminals and we are innocent till proven guilty and most of the time we would be glad to assist if they needed it. But good luck on whatever career you choose to follow and just for the record I wanted to be a game warden once also. Take care

Moodfood,

I would suggest that you talk to someone that was formerly FL game and freshwater fish commission. They were assimilated into FWC. I had a friend like that that retired after 2 years in the FWC. He said he could not wait to retire. He had a lot more paperwork and a lot less field work after the FWC took over.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but it's worth a little research before you commit to two years.

Jim

While you guys are talking about the FWC, I have some news for you. While on duty today at the fire deptment, I had a chance to converse with an FWC officer. He told me today that if you folks gator hunting this year decide not to tag your gators or don't snap them so they lock, they are going to take your boat, your gator, your license, equipment, cities tags and you to jail. This is a new rule that they just had a meeting about. The officer was very nice and wanted the word out. It seems that alot of hunters have not been tagging gators so they can kill more and the man knows what is going on and will have no more of that. There will be no excuses to this rule!

Do yourself a favor and become a Firefighter. You work 2 days a week, and have 5 days off to play. You don't have to carry a gun, you don't have to be rude, and everyone is ALWAYS glad to see you. There is a slim chance you might get shot at, but usually you can run and hide behind the fire engine til some form of law enforcement shows up. Besides the Fire Acadamy is about 400 or 500 hours. Don't forget about the 5 days off!! Just ask Harry T firefighter he will tell you, he's been doin it for over 30 years!!

Boy I'm glad somebody has time to worry about crap like that. The rest of us are so busy taking care of business that somebody might actually slip through the cracks with an UN-SNAPPED gator tag!

Moodfood, you seem like a cool cat. Just remember, it's usually not the guy with good intentions who changes the misguided organization, but rather the other way round. Hopefully the force will be with you and you will not go the the dark side.

It really bothers me that it seems like the attitude of the wardens is so bad. I know several of them in LA & TX and all of them are good guys. Sounds like some of those FWC guys need to be retrained in courtesy.

I can remember when a few years ago, we were sitting on a good bream hole yanking them out fast and steady. The LA wardens (one older fellow and a young one) idle up and killed their motor distance away, the older fellow spoke as quietly as he could and still be hear. "Just hold up all ya'll licenses and we will not get any closer, don't want to disturb the fishing."

The gator tag being snapped together has been a big deal for several years in both LA and TX. The gator hunt is done really different over here and the tags are issued to the land owner or his agent. But they have always been really hard about the tags not being snapped. Supposedly making sure the tag is snapped stops people from shooting a bigger one and dumping the smaller of the two.

Mood - the guys I know really enjoy it. Money isn't great, but working outdoors is rewarding. Remember there are good guys out there like Sniper and a few good guys can make a difference.

I thought that is was some Info that should be brought to everyone that gator hunts. These guys mean business and I don't beleive that he would lie to me because we work in the same area of goverment, "As far as protecting lives". I just chose the pillow, he chose the gun. He himself wanted to get the word out to help out the hunters from a bad cituation. I don't believe in taking people's private property for any violation!!!!

Moodfood, Firefighting is not a bad job. as long as you can put up with the firehouse politics that is. You are right about beyond EMT, Firefighter/ Paramedics get paid alittle more. That is if you want the greater responsibility. Just remember 24 on 48 off. Second jobs are the common standard to make up for the low pay. By the way, the sites we see over here in Daytona Beach during special events are usually very nice!!!!

Wade, you forgot to mention Kelly Days.

Mood, with most departments training and recerts are done on duty and pay and benies aren't near as bad as some suggest in SE Fla. anyway. 25 yrs in business, retired once and working on second.

Florida Cracker, Some departments do take better care of their firemen. I wish we could get Kelly days.

That, to say the least, is an understatement.

I don't have a problem following the rules, but I do have a problem with officers who always assume that I am trying to get away with something and treat me that way. Every encounter I have ever had with FWC has been just that way.

They could really help themselves out if they would treat people with respect. As it is, I don't personally know anyone who likes the FWC

I know exactly what you mean Red. Guilty until proven innocent. I believe sooner or later something will have to give. He told me that there were alot of gator hunts still available, imagine that. I just can't understand why. Still have a bad taste in my mouth over some trouble I got into last year. The night before the hurricane on my hunt I was alittle busy taking care of business and screwed up, o- well, learned a valueble leason.
