Left handed steering WHY ?

Ok can someone tell me logic of why airboat steering handles are on the left side of the seat :?: Was the guy who invented the airboat a LEFTY ? :D Or was it a woman who invented it so us guys would have to learn how to use the other side of our brains :D (Be Gentle  )

Operating the control panel if you are right handed with your left hand is hard to do. I built a right hand boat for a Dr. it was hard to learn to opperate the boat.

Its because most people are right handed . froggin, huntin and such

which hand do most people drink with? :D :D

Its just like a car you steer left and use your right to shift , radio, air and some people there phone.

I think that they don it that way just so that some one would always wonder why they did it that way. no matter which way they done it.

So what would you call it if the stick was between your legs, like an airplane? It wouldn't be center steering .......... :? .

.... or a Cyclic stick in a helo. :) 'nother smirk.

Maybe that was where Miller was goin' ..... he would have no Joy if he hit a stump with the stick between his knees :? .

I kinda like the idea myself ..... steer with either hand, or hold it with you knees while you pop the top on one .... 8) .

Thank for all the responses, Those are the answers I figured I'd get :D I guess it is just a nice way of saying YA DON'T KNOW :D And I must say they were some good ones.

AK Tours ..... it's just tradiition I suppose. Why are all of the cars in this hemisphere built with the steering wheel on the left?
Still, there are some interesting options and everybody is open to seeing a better way. That's one of the things that make airboats such a unique craft.

I'm seriously considering putting the stick between my legs on the next one, with side-to-side rather than fore-aft input. It seems more natural for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is over 1200 hours of flying time.

Feather foot steering sould be a natural for you ! Ever leave the airport and find yourself driving stradelling the center line instead of staying in your lane?? LOL

Besides foot steering leaves both hands free to pop tops and reach in the cooler !

My checkride examiners used to hate me ..... I love skidding turns! I feel like I'm dirt trackin the thing, and since the wings are level, you can see where you're goin  !

Co-ordinated turns are for when you need to gitter' done fast ..... otherwise, the only time I ever thought much about where the turn and bank indicator was, was when airspeed was low.

Helos are fun once you get the hang of it because all you do is fly the Fan .... facing in the direction you're moving is usually a good idea, but you certainly don't have to.
