Lenco trim tab trouble

payhayokee

Well-known member
My trim tab keeps moving on its own...I will not touch the switch and then the boat starts riding the nose...The tab is down...My self and dixie are having the same problem, he thinks its back feeding power some how...Any one else having a problem with theirs????

Check the switch for corrosion or moisture. Every one I know up here that has them on flats boats or offshore boats has had the same problem and had to replace the switch, but it keeps coming back later and doing the same thing, then they go with the hydraulic Bennets. Its a common problem with the Lencos someone else has got to have an answer, my boat does not use a tab, keep us posted!

Mine does the same thing, new switch did not help, I put an eye bolt on the tab and one on the boat lip then put a rubber bungee to keep it up. I think the vibration lets it screw itself down. not real sure why it did it but has not happened sense I added the bungee

The screw is turning on its own. Vibration causes this. Sometimes you can stop this with a large rubber band, just a little up-ward tension. The "cylinder" gets loss with age. If you ever find one that is wore out, cut it open and see how it is made.

I called lenco, they denied of ever hearing of a problem of this sort... They sent me a new one and the new one does it also.... I will try some up ward pressure and see how that does..

Been using them for 15 years or so....never had this problem.
Had switches fail.
Had the unit get water inside.
Good product!
Bennet is good too, easier to get just the right trim w/Bennet.

I sent my 1st back and they replaced it , but it did it too. I just keep bumping the switch about every 5 min or so.

Do you guys with problems have the rubbery switch or the hard plastic switch? I have never had the problem with my Lenco. Mine is older and it does come up on its own after awhile and I have to bump it down but never up. It sounds like a switch problem to me.

I used the Bennett on several airboats and I liked them except they break going over logs and they operate slower. The replacement actuators were cheap for the Bennett and overall I liked them but in the future I'm sticking with the Lenco and the hard plastic switch.

My Lenco has always done this...couple of replacement tab cylinders, switches and wiring...always does the same thing ...mostly running dry or in rough choppy open water...PIA

My old one started to do it , then I had to replace it when I ran some dry ground and it couldn't handle the weight of the airboat. The one I have now that I got from Bondsman doesn't do it at all, so I say it's not the switch. If Lenco said they never heard of it then they don't talk to each other. I called about this a while back and they said the same thing then

Mine does the same thing ! Only 80 hrs on unit. Called lenco ,the said normal for "rugged use" . I just give it a bump every couple of minutes and make sure its up when I run the hill. Also my standard excuse when I don't make it to the top !

Well like payhayokee said I had them send me a new one. I installed it and it does the same thing. My switch is from diamondback. Came with the trim tab. It isn't the switch the tab just vibrates down. I'm going to try the bungee thing if I can make it look good.(Can't have no crap hanging back there.)

wood had the same problem he took it to hamant and they put a spring on it to hold it up and it solved the problem for him. pm him to see if he can take a pic.

That's a good looking fix Dixie!! Here is his pic..

The problem is in the actuator. Mine vibrates down even when I have it on the trailer with the battery switch off so it is not in the switch or electrical system. I just push it up every once in a while when I am out running.

I think your fix looked very sharp! ! You should make some packages up w/ 2 springs, nut & bolts and a pic, and sell them . "Dixie's Quik-Fix" -------- "A Sure Fire fix for a shaggy A$$" ----LOL!!!
