LollyPop Lane

funny how things change over time great short story.there is history forgotton everywhere every day it is ashame.most people don't pass the stories along to there kids because now aday most these kids don't care.most people don't remember why sumter county is nicknamed hog county but it can be interpreted today as the greedy pigs from the villages.

I have never been to lolly pop lane yet ... I have seen a lot of places and am always amazed at the things I find in the darndest places .. Often out in the middle of nowhere you find an old dock or a burned bridge and it makes you wonder about the stories that surely accompany it, was it a foot bridge, wagon bridge, where did it go where did it come from ... always wonderin.

One reason I like riding alone or with a small group of one or two boats is so we can take the time to stop or slow down and look around at all the history and beauty that can not be seen by any other manner of transportation except an airboat.

i grew up hunting the big cypress my grandpa and uncles are all gone now but thanks for reminding of them and of the place goodtimes for sure

Cowboy,

Hunted the "Windmill Prairie" several years there. didn't know about the "Lollypop lane" though. Good find! I'll try to dig out some pics, (know I've got some here of Windmill) soon and post.

That's what I'm talk'in about!
Nice.

Duece I did'nt even know those picture were there.

Plumb, Basket, Country, and Duece,
Y'all probably know way more about the Big Cypress than I do.
I ain't been to LollyPop Lane, but maybe wonna these days I will find it.

Airboat Camps vs Buggy camps makes no difference to me.
It's all good. REAL GOOD.
The LollyPop lane story came from Here:
http://bigcypressswamp.com/
Theres plenty more stories there.

Dig them buggy woods pictures out when you get a chance Basket.
I wanna see them.

Bondsman, You crack me up man.
I really did laugh out loud when I read your reply.

Yeah ,
Steve's written a bunch good stories on there and its neat reading some of the history that you might not be able to read about anywhere else.

Duece is right ," There is a lot of history down there too. When we go we say we are hunting, but we really do more exploring than anything."

I have stumbled on to old mounnds east of the tram while hunting that never seen before and have been by them several times. Also discovered old rail road sections , old USGS survey markers , the remanants of a stilts camp and on and on.
Even an old well established buggy trail have their bit of history to them .

I've been going out there since the 70's and its safe to say that I will never see it all .
I just wish the buggy restrictions never happened .There's too much country to cover , especially if you have older folks with you.

Exactly Robert.
We just poke around at the Eastern Edges of it, and we still find some secret places evey now and then.

Perhaps those places are still known by a few, or perhaps they are compleatly forgotten and rediscovered. Who Knows?
None the less, exploring areas that still have secrets to discover is not something you can find just around any corner.

There may be secret places we have passed by 20 times already, and have not noticed yet.

You confirmed what I had suspected. Even a hard core lifer in the cypress may never come close to knowing every secret that's out there.

It's awesome!

I really wish I could of been a part of those stories. Well I guess I will just have to make my own :).

Yeah , Also discovered old rail road sections

Are there any tracks left on the olod sections? Any spikes laying around?

Scotty

I found 2 rail road spikes about 10 years ago just east of 29 ,south of wagon wheel and one side of a rail .
I've tried reseaching Copeland's history and where the old rail ran , but never heard of any east of 29 . None the less I found those 2 spikes .
