Looking for new boat

Need a family boat for Homosassa river, demo a new 17 alum with 8.1 with 4 blade super wide. Did not care for the way it rode or turn. my old boats where all aircraft power. So any thoughts on a good setup with car power haul 4 people and gear. With 3 girls lots of stuff. Liked GTO shop but the engine chioices are some many that I would like someone opions that puts in the time on the water or dry as it may be.

Thanks :)

Almost all of the modern metal hulls are really great boats. if ya got the bucks and don't want a lot of trouble, get with Dave for a Waterthunder Engine. from what I hear, you definately will not be dissapointed. There are more than enough of them out now to say its a top notch airboat propulstion system.

Scotty

bigun this is just my opinion but that big a ride w/ an 8.1 and 4 blade superwide is going to be a dog no matter how you slice it.it would never come close to the memories you had of a lighter boat and a/c motor.don't get me wrong there are big boats out there that can run,but they ain't got a levatator on them.

Thanks for the info, I had sent a email to him from his web site so I will drop him a pm. So we must thiink alike. One thing I learned that this is the site to get info not a sales pitch. :D

You must have been on my demo ride so that is my concern, to make sure when I spend$$$ that it will at least act like a airboat not a barge. :D

HUNTINGBIGUN, I LIVE IN BRANDON AND HAVE A 2006 14' HAMANT WITH A WATERTHUNDER MOTOR. I AM VERY HAPPY WITH IT. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO LOOK AT IT, PM ME AND WE WILL HOOK UP.

Very true that there are a lot of excellent boats out there. GTO builds an excellent boat that I'm sure would be right to your liking. As for the 8.1?...Pretty predictable results there. Very reliable, but very heavy and mediocre on the power. In the same boat a Water Thunder LS will make better power and weigh a helluva lot less. If you want BIG power for a big boat while weighing less than the 8.1 but not as light as a LS,, I may know someone who knows how to do that as well. ;) It really comes down to choosing the BOAT, then powering it appropriately from there IMHO.

You are the man on big block power from all I have seen on this site and thanks for your input. Seems to be the $100 question I need a boat large enough for my crew but want the zip of my old boats. I am looking power options I am pretty sure Hammond or GTO hull walkaround, cooler etc wide & deep sides because of the Homosassa my wife may run me down with my 33 whaler :)

Hard to believe aircraft power guys have had no comment must be true can not push weight ---lol----------- :downtown:

Hammett makes a great hull and they ride very well, but I would look at Dimondback you can't get much better customer service and they really give a lot to the Airboating community just look what they Did for us with Bud's boat I have a 14X7.5 with a WaterThunder power plant on it and it runs incredible and it has never ever been stuck and goes any where I want to go and it is a Rescue boat so it is not real light but it will hall a load and you see more Diamondbacks around probably more than any other production boat that speaks for it self and what ever boat you get I would buy the hull and then Take it to WaterThunder and let him install the the power plant and prop there is no one on this planet that sets a boat up better and I promise you will be very pleased. I would also look at the Sensenich super wide prop the three blade set up for your prop it's Quiet and it has unreal push and performance If you decide on a Diamondback PM me and I will talk to the owners and hook you up I have a great relationship with them

Dang Cowboy, That right there was funny I don't care who ya are.
But back to the question I would chose an aircraft motor every
time, but cant see myself having a boat bigger than 14'.
It looks like they're getting 500 HP out of the car motors
while still keeping things not to radical, and then hanging
one of them torque multipliers on the back of it, just don't
see how your going to get that out of an aircraft engine
to push one of those big barges unless you have one of them
18 cyl Pratt& Whitneys, and then you would need a 600 gal.
fuel tank, and that would mean a bigger hull and who knows
where it would end!

Actually WaterThunder has two motors that he sells that are 550 HP and a 600 hp model that are both reliable and light same or less weight than an Aircraft motor and a lot less money if your talking a new engine and I would not get over a 14 ft hull if you want real good handling and performance

Hey K mac that's why you see all those big tour boats with aircrafts on them! Hey Sniper dropping off my seats and tank today it wouldn't be long! I'm sure Hammant wants to kill me by now I have been a PAIN IN THEIR @$$ with all the changes and hold up's I have done to them! I can't wait to have it running, good thing I made it so big since I have another passenger on the way!

Congrats Thunder
now the new change is adding the baby seat the the rigging.
You don't feel old until the grand kids start coming.
