Louisiana Airboat Club?

rick

Administrator
The idea for this forum courtesy of Bigfun. It's main purpose is to discuss the possibility of forming an airboat club or association for Louisiana airboaters.

Good idea Bigfun.

I am ready to do what it takes to form some sort of airboat organization in Louisiana also. Sooner or later some of the pressure that the FL airboaters are getting will work its way here to south LA.

Right there with ya Hogman, Kevin

I know I can get 10 or 15 guys from my area who would be interested (probably much more). I am not sure how we could get the ball rolling on this issue, but it is going to be a must in the future to protect our rights.

Maybe we could arrange a meeting place and ride for a half day and discuss a potential club or association the rest of the day.

Lake Fausse Point area and the Atchafalaya Basin around Shaws Island are both fun places during the summer months.

We usually have an airboat rally every couple of years in these places, 30 to 40 boats at a time.

Any other Ideas? Kevin

New to this type of boating and look forward to many fun hours. Have looked for a Louisiana airboat association, unsucessfully. Now I know why.

Beginners, like me, need advice and assistance to maximize our pleasure while in or on our airboats. An association is the best source.

I am very intrested.

While reviewing the La. Recreational Fishing Regulations 2005, on page 38 a referance is made "Mufflers - All vessels must be equiped with an efficient muffler or exhaust system that is capable of adequately muffling the exhaust of the vessel."

Don't know how long this has been required nor if it is enforced.
This is another reason to form a La. Airboat Assoc. We need to group together to protect our use of airboats without major and sometimes unobtainable rules being passed.

If you don't have mufflers on your boat yet, I would strongly recommend it.

Mufflers can actually help you make torque and they will certainly raise the level of public opinion about airboats.

Passtime,

Isn't there an "Expo" of some kind happening in your neck of the woods this weekend? Thought I saw a post form Airboatworld magazine talking about that.

Seems like a good oportunity to meet and greet fellow airboater in Louisiana if so?!

Hope ya'll get something started there! Feel like we all gotta stick together, (airboaters) to keep the boats runnin.

Glad to see you guys in LA willing to work together to help protect our sport and similar activities. Wish some of you were close enough to attend a meeting with an established club to get an idea of what you need to do. Bad as I hate to admit it, (no offense if anyone is one) but you need to get a lawyer and set up a non-profit corporation that cleary protects the officers and board of directors. This will also help out on taxes. Not a bad idea to look into insurance also. In today's society of sue happy people, you just gotta cover your butts. These are just a few of the items you will need to consider when forming your club. Maybe someone from your area could make it to south Florida for the FAA meeting in October. I wish you guys good luck and hope you build a great club.

as you noticed we are in need of a leader. the club idea is a good one but no leaders.

didn't get back to La. until last week, so if there was an expo, didn't get there.

will see ya'll on 27th in melbourne. maybe we can discuss how to start an organization in La.

anyone else willing to help pls reply.

thank you

Great idea for you fellows to get it going it can only help. I will be keeping up with my homeland for sure. I might not be there in person but still there in heart for sure. Good luck with the future forming of a club. Later , Cajun

Count me in, I live with in 8 miles of mark Robicheaux's shop, Ronnie Tibodaux of Ronnie's airboats and with in 5 miles of ex Louisiana gov. Mike Fosters house. if somebody makes some fliers for the club i will print them out and have them put up in their shops.loads of people go through there each week, i will also get one to Mike Foster. i know for a fact that he bought a boat from Mark Robicheaux last year. if there is anything else i can do around here just say the word. i work to much to be able to lead anything but i will gladly be a worker

Let me make a suggestion and maybe it will help. Contact the editor of the Louisiana Sportsman Magazine they are always open for articles, and it will be a great way to get the ball rolling. I would wait till you had a forum site to put in the article. That would probably get all the members you want. The magazine might even be open for a monthly input from ya'll. Its a great magazine and I still get it here in Fl. Good luck and hope things really get going for ya'll. Later, Cajun

u know it doesn't even have to be a totally new club, a Louisiana chapter of southern airboat would work fine. your not gonna beat the forum on here anyway.

hey y'all Louisiana boys, i just got this message. : We'd love to do an article for you in our next issue if you want. on setting up an airboat club in LA. We have a big marketing push into GA and LA and TX this next issue (September/October) so that could help spread the word. Just write something up with contact information.

Also we are going to be spending a week in LA the last week of August meeting with builders for our Meet Your Vendor Feature and would love to also get some ride location info.

Any way you can organize a get together somewhere between Aug 26 and Sep 2? We'll be there and cover the event and that way it would also be in the November/December issue and give us a chance to meet some of the airboaters in that area. If you can help pick a place and time and spread the word, we'll also contact everyone on our builders list to invite them out as well. Kinda short notice to organize anything real fancy other than just a ride. I know this is also gator season so might not work out - but we'd be interested if you are.

Call me anytime at 352-255-4776. We are in Nebraska this weekend shooting the airboat race up hear and then working our way back south through Texas and over I-10 back to Florida so that is why we are in your area that particular week.

Look forward to hearing from you. Beat to call since email is somewhat limited.
