LS-2

Talked to Panther yesterday, they're going to build a 16ft boat with twin turbo charge or twin super charge Ls-2 with a counter rotator on it for a demo boat.

I am involved with alumitech on a twin turbo charged LS6 that is on the dyno now and will be ready in a week or two if all stays on track. It has a lot of neat items on it, like watercooled exhaust with its own enclosed cooling system. I am sorta giving gear box and prop advice and providing them a conventional v8 to test against for sound purposes.

It is capable of 600 hp on 87 octane but they are tweaking it a little, so i have been told, Stay tuned folks the manufacturers are listening finally.

Oh yeah it come with a one year warranty on the engine, none of the 90 day no drips crap, or the I sorry it is no covered it was on an airboat junk you get from GM performance crate motors.

Speaking of this Thunder are you putting warranties with your motors now? I am considering building a new boat and am trying to think outside the box and deviate from the A/C motor all of my buddies run. All I keep hearing is reliability, reliability but I know you guys have spoke alot of how reliable the LS-1's seem to be. As soon as my boat gets sold then I will be down there talking to you. I have always run a 540 but I like to think I am at least smart enough to hear and learn about the other options.

I do supply a warranty with my motors but to be honest I ain't had to do one yet. This is cool when I first started building LS1's for airboats everyone said oh those motors ain't reliable but now they are proven and it's obvious they are more reliable then the 1st gen SBC so I'm sure everyone will start building them. All the hard work is done with the management systems and changes so you will start seeing them everywhere! I know all three major airboat manufactures are working on them now.

Well I sure like mine except I have an LS6 and it was the first one Diamondback installed at there place so I am told and it runs like a bandit and I think once Bobby see's how good mine is doing he may start offering them as a regular motor package and I will be at moods wedding with it so you all that are going to be there will get to see it.

Seems to me that the twin turbo charge is more for the bling than functionality. Meaning turbo lag and added weight ect.

no bling, it is a fuel injected, computer controlled engine. the computer was drug behind a inboard boat that it was controlling for over 400 hrs nonstop other than to change drivers and fuel to determine its tough enough for the elements. The turbo's are small diameter thats why they use twins to cut down on the lag. It is being built by a major engine company and has nothing to do with thunders work on them at all.

Not taking anything away from him but just stating the facts. This company has been doing alot of experimentation for quite a while, every change has been recorded on dyno sheets and evaluated for durability hence the written 1 year warranty.

Actually twin turbos have much less lag than single at the same HP level. There is a lot that can be done in the tune as well as overall design to deminish lag. Granted...Fot an unlimited race boat application it has some issues cuz there will always be some lag. BUT there are few applications that spool a turbo as well as the load of a prop..the more you load it..The more power it makes. And being that turbo power is almost completely non-parasitic, it very easy on parts for the HP produced. I recently built a 2800HP BBC that needs nothing more than oil changes for the entire season.

Take it from someone who's been setting a lot of records by combining years of intricate N/A race engine experience with turbocharging...It's time is has definitely come.

Now if someone builds a 600HP TT LS1....The boost will be SOOO low that the engine should live forever...BUT the added weight of the turbos and the added controls, intercooler etc....I would tend to think that it should have to make 7-800HP to perform at a level it should to justify it's use/expence. I agree Mike to run twin turbos and only make 600HP is not worth the weight and cost. Mike I'm sure the one your doing will far exceed that. I will post some LS2 dyno numbers since thats all anyone cares about from a strong LS2 motor! I want to state I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH CT141's and the one at Classic I beleive is Mike'y and I can asure you on it's worse day it will make 750HP or Mike will commit harry carry!

Well it should be interesting anyways. i don't have anything to do with building the motor just the box and prop setup and providing them a guinea pig to compare it too. I wish them the best at least they are trying something towards making a quiet airboat at a manufacturer level which is more than has been done before.

The boost is very low they say and yes it should last forever that is why they guarantee it for a year. they have done other things to it and backed it off because it made more power than they wanted to warranty. One of them was so simple it was sick, added 50 hp cost about a hundtred bucks. They are up to other stuff as well, I guess the good part of my participation is I am learning some stuff to do to one if I want to buy one of them.

They are putting it on one of my hulls they built for me which is a clone of the one I am running now. I personally do not like the cluttered look of the engine setup myself but it aint mine, I just get to drive it.

I'll start off by saying I have loved my Turbo cars. I guess If you could cruise with no or very little boost it would be a very economical package (fuel wise) with amazing power with a further press of the pedal. Nice soft power, not hard on part's as long as the control parts don't mess up. Twin turbo for 600 HP sounds like someone has money. Should be able to do that with a Miata engine!

Sweet, aren't they? With a Comp 108 deg. cam and a better oil pump, it's like Cowboy says ...... "Whoa, Nellie" !

Man I should raise my prices. That motor by the time you buy the ignition (which they change the cover and use a distributor), starter, flywheel, alternator, carb, sucker spacer, all stainless brackets, belt, headers, water pump mods, oil pump mods, 180 thermostat, programmable ignition with over heat safety control and all the fittings is within a $1,000 of mine which makes more horsepower, is designed for an airboat and comes with a warranty. If someone does buy one of these be prepared to shell out some money if you want a distributor less ignition! OH -YA mine comes with cool covers also!

No body's throwin off on you, Dave.

No question your engines are a far better deal, mostly because they've been assembled by a man who understands them instead of some 8 to 5 Chicano who is just going through the motions. It would be an easy no-brainer for me.
