lycoming 0-320 prop recommendations

I have a 0-320-E2D with angle valve jugs. I recently replaced rings and installed 3 new cylinders (had new spares). All 4 cylinders are chrome. My boat came with and old wood prop (66x36 i believe), and the motor will only rev to 2500 rpms. before i did the cylinder work it was the same but old rings and cylinders were oil burners so i replaced them. My question is should I be able to make 2800-2900 with this prop or should I try a composite? I'm looking at a whirlwind whisper tip 66" due to cage restrictions. Any ideas?? I've checked carb adjustment and it seems to be on the mark and plugs all look good. Mag drop is normal also.

Only one way to see if it will turn the old wood prop and thats to try it. As far as the composite goes if you have the money then you should go for it. I ran a sensenich Q and a whirlwind Excaliber on my 0320 when I had it. Loved how quiet the Q was and the way it pushed on the bottom end, it would tend to fall off on the top. The Excaliber was not as quiet but not as bad a a warp drive, It would push everywhere. I also had a boat that rode stuck to the water, it would take off in grass but stuck in deep water. The Excaliber was able to give the boat the little lift it needed to free it up. All these props were 70 inch props and length does make a difference. If your dealing with whirlwind give Pattie a call, she can really give you some better advice than anyone here.

I run a 72" whisper tip narrow on the same setup, turns 2850 on the 2 mark, pushes like a tractor. Ma4spa carb
