Lycoming 0435

Have any of you gentlemen had any experiance with this engine? A friend has the chance to pick one up for next to nothing in running codintion with a ton of spare jugs and pistions. I know its a 6 cylinder rated at 190 HP. We were just wondering what the limitations would be, would it be able to follow a 0360 4 cylinder? It would be rigged up on a lite 12' aluminum hull. Or is it not even worth messing with.

Around these parts being able to run the hill is a must!

Thanks for any info, Kevin.

I know someone who ran one years ago with us in Central Florida. It was rigged on a 12' fiberglass airboat and all I remember is that it was impressive. It had no problem keeping up on the hill with the other boats.

The horsepower for that motor is rated at 2550 rpm's and most other direct drive Lycoming's are rated at 2700-2800 rpm's. I'm no expert, but I think if that motor was rated at the higher rpm's, it would probably be around 210-220 hp.

Now the downside (from what I've learned). I was thinking about buying a GO-435 (same motor with angle valve jugs & gear box) and was told, by a guy who makes a living building aircraft (airboat) engines, that you can't afford to work on them.

If it's a great deal, I personally wouldn't be afraid of it, but I'd go into it thinking I could probably never rebuild it with new parts (bearings, rings, valves, etc.).
