Lycoming 4cyl help identifying?

Hello. I purchased a boat and it has a 4cyl lycoming on it. I have looked top to bottom and cannot find a I'd tag of any sorts. Only some numbers on the case sides. And it has a marvel carb on it. Idk if that means anything identity wise. I don't know where to begin finding a jug or parts. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Never owned aircraft power and I know this boat ran great until the jug removed lost some compression he removed it and no telling where it got off to. It has sat for a long time in a shed the owner passed and I finally got to purchase it. 20180620_114547.jpg20180620_114741.jpg20180620_114607.jpg20180620_114536.jpg20180620_114529.jpg20180620_114731.jpg

Thank you. May I ask how you know this. Trying to learn something. not doubting your info. Is their something obvious that sets this from a 0-235 or a 0-290

I don't even know what the engine is let alone parts on it I take it the banana plates your talking about are the ones holding the jugs on regular hex nuts? Narrow deck vs wide deck? Someone fill in the blanks. I know I have a lycoming motor with a jug missing. :rebel: :violent1:

The part number thats stamped into the case on your last picture "69107" is a Lycoming Part Number for a O-320 straight valve motor. You could very well have different jugs on this motor. But the case is definatly a O-320. If you pull a rocker cover off the jug there should be a PN stamped.

If it's been sitting a long time with the jug off, take a flashlight and look in the hole where the jug came off. Look up to the to and check that your cam shaft is ok. Lycomings weak spot is the cam shaft, if there is rust on it it is time to break it down.

Out of curiosity does anyone have a list of crankcase part numbers with there corresponding engines. Think it would be useful to verify the engine when looking at a boat.

I checked out the inside and everything has a nice coat of oil and shines with light was out of weather till I got it last week and I have a tarp over it. I'm to the point when I get a chance I guess pull another jug and see what the piston looks like need something to go by. Are they all the same. Is their a chance of oversized pistons. Here soon if I don't get the stuff to put back together going to cut the cradle out of the boat because hull is bad and strap to trailer and get to Florida with it see a aircraft guy. I'm stuck till I get a jug piston and the other parts needed to check this thing out.

Again thanks for the responses. Any help is appreciated I am a car motor guy. Never had a aircraft and figured why not. I know this one ran. Why the cylinder came off and got gone I have no idea. If anyone can steer me in the right direction to where I can buy some parts to get back together to check this motor out properly would be awesome. I have no clue when it comes to these motors but I'm catching on now that I have one to mess with. I may be way off correct me if I am but I was thinking 400-600 for what I need to see where this motor is at condition wise do compression test then go from their. I know I don't want to drop it off somewhere and say fix it. I'd be happy to have correct parts and it be whole and have it sealed up. I could use in the future if it does need major work or sell for parts. :rebel: 8) Thanks again for any help

When you signed up if you had filled out the part where you live people near you might be willing to lend a hand. You say get it to Fla. I guess you are not in Florida.

Just did that. Didn't see the options on profile when signing up. Yes I'm from Florida and have a place in Orange Springs and down a good bit. Will be down in a few weeks want to check compression before I haul it down to get help. If she seems promising I will find a hull while I'm down.
