Mag Timing

I recently bought my first air boat. It has an e-185 with 520 conversion. It has an oil leak where the accessory housing attaches to the block. In order to replace the gasket I need to pull the mags. Do I have any chance in heck of pulling them with out the gears turning and throwing the timing off, and then re-installing them? Or do I need to let somebody else take care of this.

absolutely not, They WILL move. You could get away with it if you had a mag lock for each mag (and didn't turn the engine). To get the timing exact you will need what they call a buzz box or electronic mag timer. It would be better just go ahead take them out fix you front cover and have someone put them back in. Tell us where you are and someone should be close, lot's of mag guys on here( including myself).

Thanks, I'm in Saint Lucie County.
I have a few things to do to get the boat the way I want it, and its probably best to get the mags checked out anyways.

It's not that hard, if you can pull em you can time em. Pull the cover off and line the marks up. I screwed up the first time and it only took 45 min. to figure it out.
No Problems, you can do it. 8)
