(stand by, for your viewing enjoyment you will be presented a conversation between Doc and himself)

of course, that 5 bucks is 1% of what I should send Speedwheelie so I could have my mags rebuilt and functional in a timely fashion. So maybe I should send it to SW, if I send him 5 bucks a week for 100 weeks, by this time in 2010 I'll be able to ride my airboat. By then, the stainless steel frame will have rusted away to nothing, Orlando will have sucked the St. John's river dry, and I'll have rotted another prop into nothing.

It's like the Alabama state lottery. 10 million dollars to each winner!!! a dollar a year for 10,000,000 years.

*sigh*.... I'm tearing these mags apart tommorow, any words of wisdom?

Hah ! And I thought I was going to post stuff to help everyone. With that info why would anyone need to send a mag anywhere. Damn thats better info than I had.

I still have a mag coming that I can tear apart and make images or a video of inspecting and rebuilding one. Maybe my idle hands just need something to do besides the computer and watching it rain.

Great info Doc !

By all means, don't let me stop you from doing anything to help us along! I'm ridiculously mechanically inclined, have held jobs ranging from auto mechanic and boiler maker, to server and large format printer engineer...

four things in this world I'm afraid of -- two of them you can't see.

Electricity
Rottweiler in the dark
Automagic transmissions
magnetos

Holy crap. This could be the best 30 bucks you ever spent.

http://www.mechanicsupport.com/manuals.htm

Looking through the list of mechanic's toolbox manuals, it's got:
6 manuals for Bendix Magnetos
6 different carb manuals, including Marvel-Schebler and Stromberg
3 continental manuals
3 lycoming manuals
and a whole bunch of other junk that may or may not be useful. I may just have to purchase this snappy little thing.,

The know how is the big part .. If you can do this with a manual thats good for you.
Let's see price of manual $10,price of dis block $100. price of coil $100, price of.....
Good luck I'm sure you can do it...Don't forget to set the E gap :D
Aero accessories are cheap in more ways then one....

Doc, the manuals are always good to have for any part that is on your engine. Magnetos are one of the simplest and most complicated things I found on an aircraft. I always take mine to a local FAA certified shop and usually watch as he repairs them. Replacing the coil, points and setting the gaps correctly is easy. Seeing a minor problem when run at high speed on the diagnostic machine requires experience.

I had a mag rebuilt while I waited and it looked perfect to me on the high speed run. He saw a minor error and wanted to tear it apart again to fix it. I was in a hurry and I wanted to take it the way it was and go but he insisted. He tore it completely apart again and replaced a small bearing and then it was perfect. I guess that is why he is certified.

well, I got the parts for the S4LN-2, but I can't seem to locate the parts for the S4LN-1209,.. anybody got any ideas?
