Make a wish foundation

Rich Andrews

Well-known member
As an FYI,
I recently contacted the make a wish organization about donating an airboat/cookout ride for any kid in the South Florida area wishing to do so. The woman in charge put me down in the database for a future make a wish. I encourage anyone who has the means to put on a day to remember to contact your local chapter. From my past experiences with this organization it will be something you will remember the rest of your life.
It also will change some of the perception of airboaters...

Make a wish is a fabulous organization. When my oldest daughter was 5, she was diagnosed with leukemia. They offered her a wish and it was incredible. She wanted to meet Mark Martin and see a NASCAR race, also to visit family in NC. Super time and people. BTW she's now 19 and triaining to become a firefighter/EMT. Also, she could care a less about NASCAR  , or hunting/fishing for that matter. But she's healthy, happy, and loves the Lord  .

Good org but,

Their only problem is if a kid asks for a hunting or fishing trip, they will not grant them their wish.

Here's who we support:

Established as a non-profit organization in August 1999, Hunt of a Lifetime was originated by Tina Pattison of Harborcreek, Penn. The mission of Hunt of a Lifetime is to provide terminally ill children and young adults the opportunity to fulfil the hunting or fishing adventure of their dreams.

Pattison's stepson, Matthew, was fighting Hodgkin’s disease. He dreamed of going on a moose hunt. The Pattisons were unable financially to grant his wish so Tina called outfitters and anyone else who would listen, telling her son's story.

Matthew was given the opportunity to go on his hunt in August of 1998, harvested his moose and died in April of the following year at the age of 19.

Looking to help others in a similar situation Tina founded Hunt of a Lifetime

"Hunt Of A Lifetime" is a nonprofit organization with a mission to grant hunting & fishing adventures and dreams for children age 21 and under, who have been diagnosed with life threatening illnesses. We are doing what we can to make a difference in their life, a dream come true.

To make all their dreams come true, we need your help. If you are interested in helping a child live their dream, please contact us for more information.

Back in 2001, we donated a duck & gator hunt to them.

Great people & great org!!!

you gotta be crapping me if a kids last wish was to go hunting they wont concider that wish thats a load of bull if i ever heard one :x

Make a Wish is a good org but they have bowed to the God of Political Correctness! You know, can't have a kid's last wish be to murder a cute, cuddly critter with a beer swilling redneck............
Maybe contact the "Hunt of a Lifetime" group for the donation offer. I'm sure Make a Wish will send the request to Hunt of a Lifetime and th wish will be granted.

Hey Rich it is possible that some kids still want an airboat ride through the glades without the hunting so Make A Wish doesn't need to be ruled out entirely. That could be a great opportunity for a group event if there were enough wishes.

The reason I made the call is that I could be given the opportunity to give a child a memorable day on the water.
The idea that you've got to kill something in order for a kid to have a great day makes me sick.

PW, I have a lot of respect for your profession but the best times in my life didn't always happen when I was watching something die. I had a few real good ones doing everything I could trying to help something or someone live.

Rich started this thread with the idea of an airboat ride/cookout and hunting was added to it. Hunting should not be the determining factor of such an idea but simply another opportunity as not all airboating activities have to be associated with hunting and sportsman interests.

Sleep with a dog who has fleas and you will have them too. Don't go with your heart the anti will take it from you.Make the same stand the make a wish did just say NO with out a (thank you)

I guess we are witnessing a new low to associate an organization such as Make A Wish to the "Anti's" that so many have come to fear. I see it as some people trying to kill several birds with one stone. It isn't about promoting airboating or hunting in a positive manner by taking advantage of such a foundation, it is about making a child's wish come true. It's sad to see that some individuals place self interests over these kinds of efforts. I'll go with my heart any day and still have the common sense to defend my position with the so called "anti's". :angry4: If I've got to go against my gut feeling and what my heart tells me to do just to be in agreement with a group then I'm in the wrong group. Hope you get a call soon Rich and if you need more boats let us know.

I think it has more to do with politics than the Anti's in regards to the no fish/hunt rule.

Both org's do a great job, we just prefer to throw our support to HOAL.

If MAW came to us for airboat rides in the marsh or eco-tours on the lagoon, we'd still step up for the kids & make it happen.

When it comes to kids or even your own, you don't give one iota of consideration to your own health, safety, money, whatever to make them happy. I am glad we found another group such as HOAL to support as well.

If it were the save the Manatee club doing this, then I would have a real problem....
