"The manatee remains on the federal endangered species list and is protected by other federal laws."

In my mind manatees are about as endangered as alligators were when they had a ban on them.

At least this "may" be a case of getting one of many thousands of laws off the books. "Small steps."

At least airboats are manatee friendly. A point we need to use more often against the antis who have power boats and chop manatees up with their props.

While the "airboats are manatee friendly" story is true, think about what you are saying. Airboats are a small part of boating. We need to stand with all sportsmen & boaters against unreasonable environmental laws & rules. The last thing you want to do is toss a fellow user group under the bus to the advantage of environmentalists. When you do this, why would the other 99% of power boaters give a rat about airboats?

We need to be selective with our story and not use it to "divide & conquer" sportsmen. That only works against the sportsmen. Environmentalists don't want any of us out there. Lets work towards reasonable access for all because if we become selective, we may once again find the airboater standing alone.

Notice I said the ANTIs who happen to be powerboaters. If they are anti airboats they are fair game no matter what their hobby.

I personally stand for ANY reduction in the quantity of laws. Less is always better.

Ok,
I stated the above because I have been to more than one meeting where other airboaters asked for an airboat exemption rather than stand against BS manatee rules that affect all boaters. When we ask for such exclusions in public, at the expense of another group, you may find that you're without friends when you need them.

Long term, we'll be in better shape when we stay very warm with other boating groups. Same with hunting. While you may not dog, gator, buggy, duck or bear hunt, we better stand with another hunter because the folks attacking will come to you next after the intended target is gone. My opinion...........

lake George , has a slow manatee zone from the shore 1/4 mile out west of the river, there is an exception for air boats they can be on plain as long as they are in two feet of water or less.I guess you could call this discrimanation .alot of kicker boaters complain to the fwc about airboats being able to run the shore wich is close to ten miles long on that side.
Some times you need to stick with the herd other times you need to separate your self.
 
I agree with ya GatorStick about all boaters sticking together anybody loosing an outdoor right I feel affects me. First of all the manatees zones came to be by the wealthy land owners who didn't want people on a plane by their house. I grew up on the Indian and Banana river and once a house was built, boom all the sudden it became a manatee zone right in front of it even though there were no manatee in the area. What I don't understand is the Manatee is a none indigenous species and they consume massive quantities of grass, our river is dying because it's loosing the grass vegetation. It started with the clamers and now it's the manatee's. So when these idiots bring the sea cow population way up the rest of the river will be die because the grass will all be eaten by the sea cows. Most fish spawn in these grass beds and the clams also depend on grass beds. When the clamers yanked out all the grass it never came back even after 2 decades. Now it's coming back but the manatee population has exploded I wish they would start attacking people like alligators do. Why does man always think he is smarter then nature? These things are dying off naturally because they are stupid but man thinks he knows better and has to stop what nature is doing do you know that in the winter we are pumping worm water into selected manatee locations so they can survive the winter oh ya that's natural if it weren't for man interfering they would be extinct by now.
 
Besides, Thunder .... I hear they taste pretty good. The native indians used to net them and sell them to the Spanish for some some serious wampum.

My buddy has a picture from the early or mid 1900's of his grandfather cleaning one. I want to get a copy frame it and hang it in my shop. I love that picture.
 
Thunder can you make a set of adapter plates to mount a LS1 on a manatee with the sensenitch prop and gear box ?? if that could be done then either the manatees would become hated or airboaters would become loved. I could see it now ... a 1200lb manatee on plane headin to see his lady friends. The engine exhaust would keep them warm in the winter also. LOL I wish they ate people also .. I wonder if they would want to save the SABRE TOOTH TIGERS if they were still around. Remembe rnot long agao they banned cougar hunting in california until the cougars started eating tourists ... I believe they re-opened the season on them.

There are people ove rhere who can't build on a lot they bough to retire to ... because of some stupid scrub jay which actually does better eating out of the bird feeders and with less natural predators around than it does if it is in the wild on its own. These folks have had their land stolen in effect by the federal government. Currently ther eis very little options for them (the landowners). It is not just airboaters which are under attack by the tree huggers.
 
Cntry, that is too funny and abolutely on the money ...... a Saber Tooth might be the endangered animal until it showed up in the yard of one of these 'green' freaks, and then the real endangered critter changes places fast.
Same with the gator. We're all a bunch of Barbarians until one of em eats little Fifi, or your neighbor's niece, and then it's suddenly OK to take that one.

Loved by media, city dwellers are fed their BS by the shovelful and BELIEVE the BS, occasionally makes a little sense, loves to exaggerate, will exploit a small issue into a mountain and at times, sportsmen play into their hands.........

Good news............
Never armed, found in congregated in herds, often vegans, don't believe in violence, easily manipulated, tender & taste like chicken. The next legislative issue should be to open a season............

BTW,
My gator hunting equipment would work great on manatees. As a conservationist and promoter of sustainable use renewable resources, we should open a season on manatees since "X" number of manatees die each year!! Just because they are cute is no reason not to eat them.
 
Do manatees eat Hydrilla? If so, sling-load a pair of them up to Lake Hell-n-Blazes and let them eat their way downstream out of Sawgrass Lake.

Might as well put them to work.
