Ok. I'm getting some maps done. I'll add to this list as they become completed.

Because the ride area is so large, and there are more than one launch point, I'm making close up maps of the various ramps, and also the meetiing place.

At this point, I do not have the "whole area" map done yet. I will within another day or two.

Also, some of these are large images, and if you are on a dial-up internet connection, they'll take a while to load. Thanks for your patience.

Please remember that all these close-up maps will make much more sense once I finish the large map.

(note: I did not know there was a bridge across the river there. Judging from the shadow it looks low to the water. Is this a hazard to navigation to a boat (like mine) that does not run dry?)

The bridge is about 3-40 feet over the water, (almost always people jumping off of it). No hazard! Just gotta watch the pilings when you go through /under it! Man, that would hurt!

I've got some pretty "hardcore" GPS numbers from my rides there if you need them.

I have a awsome map of the area with gps over lay it is kissimmee south I got this map from bass pro the other day for 7 or 8 bucks and has all the camp sites and gas all the islands, I can't get into the web site maybe you can http://www.kingfishermaps.com

Interesting stuff. Nice maps - I have kingfisher waterproof maps for the entire St. Johns and all the orlando lakes. I've not seen the Kissimmee chain map, but I'm sure it is good. They make their maps based from TOPO maps. The site above does not show the map though, it just lets you order one.

The maps I'm making are not really maps but straight aerial photos. I sort of prefer them because you can see tree lines, cars on the roads, and stuff that is not always on a map. But I like ANY map !!!

Seems to be enough interest in the GPS numbers. I myself don't have one, & have never used one. But the place I get the aerials from has a readout that lists coordinates wherever the mouse pointer is. I'll get numbers for the various points and the mouths of the canals etc. If you use any of these numbers, you can tell me how accurate they are. :)

Yes it is on that map. Look at it and find the place where the land between the north cove and the main lake is the most narrow. If the penninsula were an arm, it is in the armpit. See an egg shaped pond. That is the beginning of the pig trail and right behind the stand of trees where the milk bus is rusting. You can't see the milk bus itself because it is under the trees.

Although, that map looks like the moon! The one I'm putting together is fairly recent shot and if true to life COLOR. :)

Also, keep in mind that I have never been there, this is info based on a nextel conversation between BPS and myself the other day. From the looks of it, going there is close enough. You'll see everyone. Its right on the main shore of the lake and is high ground.

Still working on the map... I suffered a crash a little bit ago... and lost 45 minutes of work. :( I forgot the saying "Save early, Save often".

The mosiac I'm putting together is almost 200 little photos, that need to be matched pixel to pixel to come out looking good. Tedious yes, but I find it relaxing work.... Well, it was relaxing until you started up with the "Are we there yet?"... :lol:

You know as the oficial "map maker" of the site it is your duty to go do the "recon" on the whereabouts of the "floating islands" the day before the ride! LOL!

I won't be there until after the FAA meeting so I don't know how many of you will already be on site but...you should be able to find it simply by looking in that general area for a group of boats. Now do realize that this part of the lake is fairly popular for camping and such so there may be several groups before the bus or even at the bus. If you are following the oaks around from the ridge (the canal from Hatchineha or Camp Mack), pretty much where the BIG oaks end is the place you're looking for. Now also, some of you are probably hearing "bus" and are thinking big yellow school bus. I did the first time I heard of it. :oops: It's not. It's really just a hunk of metal now. So don't count on seeing it from the lake right away.

I got the main map uploaded. It covers about a 20 mile by 15 mile area. It is a big file. If you are on dialup, start it loading, then go out to dinner - it'll be close to being done loading by the time you get back. The file size is 5.5MB (ouch)

I tried making a smaller one, but the detail was just not there.

I have not yet added the GPS numbers. But I will. I'll reload the file from my home high-speed connection when I get some time. Life has been busy for me, I got a second job welding aluminum. (yes Cntry - it is the place I had been trying for) :D I started there today.

Still on my list of things to do on this is to get phone numbers of all the launch points, and driving directions to them for those coming from out of town. If anyone wants to help with that, drop me a note. All of a sudden, I no longer have too much time on my hands!

Does anyone know of a way to split the image up and print it on multiple pages and then tape together?

Basket... I am going to go and poke one of them with a stick. Heck, Rick can do it with a rattlesnake.... :)

If you are worried about it - CHeck out the close-up of the MilkBus...I think all the dark stuff is the floating mud. GOBS of it!. I think the best bet is to come out of the canal from Camp Mack right nest to the ridge, and make the first lect into the little trail there and ride the rim f the lake.

These photos were taken in Feb. 2003 so I'd guess they will have changed a little since.

I intend to investigate a way to just attach a motor stand and rigging to one of them and drive it around the lake. :p

Oh, I've gott all the gps numbers, I'll list them here later today as well as upload a freah version of the map.

Jim - I have the same problem myself trying to print it out. I've done it before, and used sizors & scotch tape to make a big map. I can't remember how I did it though. I did find one place that for about $20 will print it full size and laminate it in plastic. I'll get that info together and let you know later today.

DON'T RIDE THAT FIRST TRAIL to the left of the ridge unless you are prepared to run several hundred yards of BAD STUFF!!! I have'nt been to that trail in a few weeks but as dry as it is getting out there, that trail will be mud. There are some that can go through it but I ain't too proud to say that I can't. (When it's really bad of course 8) ) :D .

When you come out of the canal you can run the edge of the lake around but be sure to take a really good look at that trail BEFORE you get in it or else we won't be eating we'll be mud wrestling!!! :D

Maybe somebody has been there recently and can give us some better intel but as dry as the marsh was last weekend, I bet that trail is pretty rough.
