OK, I haven't gotten the details for the FAA meeting yet  , BUT, I do have more details for March. March 4th (saturday) is a swap meet at GTO airboats in Ocala. Plans are being made to have a get together for the entire family complete with kid stuff and all. That leaves March 5th (Sunday) to have a ride at Orange lake/Lake Lockloosa ( one of my favorite ride areas). We could meet at Marjory Rawlings State Park which has boat ramp and restrooms. Lunch could be at Burnt Island. There are also lots of great fishcamps to stay at. IF this is of interest, then let me know and I'll get more info posted.

I like this idea! Most state parks offer camping with really nice facilities too. Is that state park airboat friendly? And if a park named after Rawlings has neither camping or airboats, it's not much a tribute now, is it?

How does all this sound to the rest of the peanut gallery? This nut likes the idea!

matt.

The Marjory Rawlings State Park is named after the author of "The Yearling". This is her house and land. The old farmhouse is a museum and there are tours thru it and the grounds (complete with chickens).
Yes it is airboat friendly. It is a piece of Fla. history that all should enjoy.
There is a nice boat ramp there with plenty of parking.
Orange Lake /Lake lockloosa are connected by a small river called Cross Creek (another book by Marjory Rawlings), it is an IDLE ZONE but you won't mind looking at the beautiful log homes and fish camps along the way.
Southernairboat- Southern History, It's a Beautiful thing.

Swamp, this is a great idea. Swap meet at Ocala, and then a Pure Florida ride the next day. Thanks!

Nice place ,no camping at the park, sheriff lives near by, blow an engine up there last time I was there. It be a nice ride.

I know Rawlings did a lot of boating down in my neck of the woods - South of Lake Harney on the St. Johns.

Further upstream than Cortez and DeLeon got. They both gave up not too far beyond Lk. Harney... and missed out on some of the best parts.

No camping in the park is not good. :(

Stan, I'm going to make a list of places you haven't blown an engine.... on the back of a postage stamp.... with a wide tip marker. :p

Hey Mood , don't worry about no camping at the park because there are several GREAT fishcamps reel (pun) close by. I'll get the names of several posted next week.
Cortez? I thought he conquered Mexico? Hernando Desoto came thru Florida, in fact came thru Citrus County where he had many raids on the indians, hence the city of Hernando,FL.
(Damn TOURIST)!!!!!
History lessons are free of charge  .

.... and I believe the Indians that Spanish Yankee( :? ) molested were Creek, not Seminole.

Sounds like it would be a hoot. I can remember our folks taking Cowboy and I and our sisters there to the museum when we were kids. Lots of Spanish moss in the trees as I recall.
Speaking of Spanish and discoveries, I never made it to Lake Harney or Lake Lockloosa for that matter, but I did discover lint in my belly button once. Don't tell any of your government worker friends that story or they'll want another Federal Holiday and that'd just be embarrasing.

Gotta miss this one to save for the lake cleanup weekend. Ya'll have a good, safe ride and be sure to check out Big Feather at the S.A. booth at the swap meet.

Unless something changes I will not make it ether. Selling the Power Shift 2 blade Friday so no prop no airboating. Got the gearbox ordered.
