Memorial Day Weekend

I'm not one to rant much but on Saturday we took three boats out to Kissimmee for a ride. I'm never doing that on Memorial Day Weekend again! There must have been 100 boats between Nigger Ridge and the Bus...No problem with that, everyone was courteous and just hanging out having a good time. However there was probably twice as many idiots on jet skis, john boats, house boats, yachts, ski boats and I think I even saw the USS JFK at one point.

The river looked alive the way the water was sloshing back and forth from the wakes. I left around 3:00...hope nobody got hurt after that.

By the way that slide going down the ridge was COOL! Wish i could have taken a ride down it.

and 1 helicopter its like that everywhere in florida on a holiday weekend at least on lake kiss you could see them coming

Just another wonderful day in paradise we call florida... After the club ride was over I took basketcase up reedy creek and we parked at the junction of reedy creek & dead river waitin on the sun to set and only saw three boats (all airboats) The dead river is much safer at night. I have found it much safer to airboat at night and more fun with the added bennefit of a few frogs on the side for good measure. If you think Kiss was bad try the hommassa while scallop season is open. or the intracoastal anywhere on a sunday in the summer. If we run our airboats where they were intended to be run all we would see is airboats and a few go devils. Just a thought

i think they should make people take boat driving classes....just like a car. too many people start driving and don't know what the hell they're doing. they think they're the only person on the water. i got in a wreck in a bass boat cause some f#*^$%* moron didn't know how to drive. i wanted to whoop his ass but he was all screaming " My back, My back!!" Some people!!!!

I got to go for a ride after 3 months, after I got hurt. I had just about forgot how free I felt ,going throught the marsh. Boys let just say'when my Dad asked me if I could get in the pass. seat.my reply." Don't ask me a stuid qustion. If not I'll drive."And I got my ride. I did let my Dad know what great dad he was after that ride. all he said was "I love you son, don't shoot your self agin."

Powderscout,

Just wondering if you ever got a chance to get to Black Creek when you

came to Camp Blanding?

Thanx, Gben

Gben,
I'm up at Camp blanding every month for guard drill. Are there any places up there to ride? I'm thinking about bringing my boat up there for my month up there in July.

Matt

Bring it!

Get up with me and I will take you to Orange Lake (about 30-40 minutes from Blanding). It's simply Airboat Heaven! Close as you'll get to the 'Glades in these parts

I guess I am just spoiled I rode About 60 miles on the Catahoochee and did not see another boat just a few folks fishing on the bank it sire is nice having your on privat river yal need to come up here some time and bring your boats.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you Gben... I never got to go to Black Creek. We were so busy teaching that we only put it on the water once. Kingsley Lake down the Sugar Tree cafe.

Archermatt...what unit are you with? I'm an instructor with the 2/211 RTI.

sniper its sure good to here from you again sounds like you had as many standin pines as we had people. would you be interested in doing a monthly run up there ? how long did it take for you to drag your boat from diamond back home just trin to get an idea. have you ever run the okeefenokee swamp??

OK Scout,

Maybe you can make it next time.
Black Creek is a very deep creek being more than 100ft deep in places where underground springs feed it continously. Lots of history including cannons on the bottom from civil war & spanish ships. Looking from the St Johns river at mouth of creek(hwy17) west abt a mile to the right is Indian Burial grounds that you can see if you look close. There are three prongs of the creek that are from abt 250ft wide down to nothing which cover several miles.

Black Creek is a beauty but be careful to run quiet where the big homes are & watch out for the gators also.

Archermatt,

If you bring your Airboat; Cross the 4lane(hwy16) at the main gate & go straight to Middleburg. Bear to your right just short of the 2nd red light & keep straight abt 1.5 miles to Black Creek Landing boat ramp. The ramp is a little steep, Bee Hive on weekends & best togo weekdays. Also a ramp on hwy 17 north of Green Cove & another off Russell Rd(hwy 209).
Yall can use SatMap on google & use the new aerial & sat photos. Some are free & I can't quit fooling with them. :)

And why not, type Sandridge Rd, Green Cove Springs Fl & pan one mile north to see our home(barely) under the big oak trees & our 60x80 shop.

Gben

Matt,

Yes Keystone Airpark is probably slight closer than Herlong Airport on Normandy Blvd west of Jax. The Airpark is off hwy100 north of Keystone.

On the Sat Maps & Aerial Photos we're using GlobeXplorer even tho it's more difficult to navigate & their logo all over it to keep from copy w/o buying. But it's the best detail we've found that is still free.

Type in Sandridge Rd or Russell Rd & zoom out enough to see the big creek. You'll see the big fork near Middleburg, zoom in & you can see the landing just west on the north fork. No more places that we know of anymore where you can ground a boat in. :(

Sniper & Croc1

Sorry guys I already checked on the Okeechobee Swamp and there are boating restrictions. The horsepower cannot be over 10hp I think. I just know my boat can’t go. I will check on some other areas around there. I do know the marsh grass at the coast is protected. But you can run the skinny water in the sloughs and the flats look good, just a lot of oyster beds.
