Memorial weekend cookout / "Poker Run on Kiss for Melis

Daddy Dave

Well-known member
There is an event being planned for Saturday of Memorial Day weekend to raise funding necessary to complete repairs and modifications to Melissa's airboat. Any surplus funds will be donated to charities benefitting children in needd of specialized medical care.

All airboaters are welcome to attend and participate.

There will be a whole lake poker run and at least one cookout to help raise the necessary financial support.

We are planning on Shady Oaks as the headquarters site. A Special Use Permit request has been submitted to Fred Davis of SFWMD.

Primitive camping along the lake and at Shady Oaks.

Motel accomodations are available at:

Westin's River Ranch Resort
Thomas Landings
J & J Motel at Indian Lakes
Camp Mack's Liar's Lodge

This will be a great event, and a great place to host it -- for a GREAT cause!

You can count on the Banana Wind with Janis and me.

What kind of help do you need to host this event?

Maybe there could be another one held else where at the same time, where as folks not wanting to travel that far on the holiday could attend one closer to them and the proceeds go to the same purpose. Just another idea to throw out there. Great ideas by the way. Hopefully all our donations will help get this thing done. Later

I would like to find out more info about the poker run on the lake , will be up that weekend with a group of frinds about 6-boats that will love to run . thank you

We will be there for Saturday for sure. We will be coming from Overstreet that day.

Thought I would bring the Saturday, May 27 Shady Oaks Poker Run and Memorial BarBeQue run back to the forefront and update with some new event developments and details.

The airboat reconstruction project for Melissa Ward is well under way. Brad Weihrauch, Danny Rudisill, Danny Brantley, JR Jurnigan and others have assured the success of the build. Members of KRVSA, SA and others are providing this woman a safe and seaworthy airboat for her future. We had hoped for a splash date on May 27, but, that's not going to happen.

We are in possession of the Special Use Permit from SFWMD for Shady Oaks Park for this event. Ya'll all can come and see the park KRVSA fought for and won for public use.

Kevin Crofton and Casey King of Crofton & Sons Meats / Uncle John's Pride Sausages have stepped up big time and will feed the first 250 members of the crowd sausages, chicken, beans, slaw and bread with all the food proceeds going directly to the funds raising effort. Crofton's cooks are very excited as neither has ever ridden an airboat and they "hope" someone will offer them a first ride.

The Poker Run card hands are ready. The lower Lake Kissimmee level has driven the froggies out of the woods and onto the lake edges. The eagles have promised an aerial fly over, the lightning bugs are practicing their firefly choreography and the stage is all set. We need You There.

All excess funds will go directly to Shriners Children's Medical Help Fund.

Sorry about the last post. I was on the phone with tech support. We got a new computer and was unable to post on here. I was making sure it was working.

Its going to be a huge weekend theres a ton of boats going from my area. And weve put out flyers all over my neck of the woods, we got from Scott.See you there

shady oaks is almost across from thmoas landing on the east bank.
your dd buddy should have no problem running that area as long as he knows not to try to pull up and park in the grass I'm sure you know the grass is sticky. most of the running is in the edge of the lake as far as i know will be a great time.

we will be putting in a over street landing this time because it's closer to shady oaks and on the same side of the lake

Shady Oaks is on the west side of the lake probably 2 miles or so north of state road 60 (south end).

Thomas Landing is on the WEST side of the lake. Shady Oaks is on the SOUTHWEST side of the lake. Overstree Landing is on the EAST side of the lake. Camp Mack is off the canal at the NORTHWEST corner of the lake.

Hope this clears things up.

I'm not sure where I'm at . just know how to get around the edge of the lake a little don't know if i'm on the east or west side never been to shady oaks looking foward to it. have been some where in that area but it was dark and I was not sure where i was but it was a long ride across the lake to thomas landing.

Moodfood has an excellent map of Shady Oaks Park. Hope he will post the link to that map. Mine was pilfered by the scoundrel BranCo and ransomed at the KRVSA Lake Clean Up last month. I really, really ,really hope I get another one from Matt.

Shady Oaks is very easy to find. Going west from the Kissimmee River outfall on Hwy. 60, it is at the far north end of the first paved road (left at the fork) turning right. Coming east from Lake Wales, the paved access road is almost directly across the street from the River Ranch Resort entrance. There is an old store at the turnoff on Hwy 60.

By water, follow the lake edge southward and Shady Oaks is directly south of the southeast tip of Brahma Island.

OUR CAMPING SPOTS ARE RESERVED #71 AND#72 AT CAMP MACK SHOULD BE A GOOD WEEKEND, BEEN GATHERIN UP A MESS OF FROGS TO FRY.

And you will BigD. It's going to be close to get them back from the printers. I tried and tried with phone calls, nextel call, posts, & emails to get someone from the KRVSA to proof-read what I've got on this map. It went out to the printers WITHOUT the location for 27 palms.

There will be no link for it. The file is too large to up/download, and if I made it any smaller, it just does not do the image quality any justice.

Smaller maps will have links in the future, but not this one. All maps will be available in laminated posters and framed posters, shipped directly to your door by way of an online shopping cart type setup. Soon. That bullet is in the chamber right now.

At the Broward show, I showed BranCo your map, because the everglades map was generating such a huge interest at the S/A.com booth. When I offered to LOAN the KRVSA your map to show on their table - to generate some of the same interest... it was gone - never to be retuned. And well worth it. Your donation brought $800 to the club BigD!!!! Way to go. I'll get you another (better) one.

matt.
