Modifying Warp Drive blades

Someone told me that you can round the leading edges of a Warp Drive and get a similar effect to the Q series (makes it quieter)

Who would be able to do this, is it just a question of grinding them down and re-balancing or would you have to send them back to the factory to do it?

You can cut the noise a Warp Drive makes in half buy rounding the edge's and Warp drives are so forgiving because of their narrow blades. The more blades a prop has the easier it is to balance it self out, rounding the tips drastically cut’s down the noise of a warp drive. I have seen several people make a template to radius off the end’s. Allot of aircraft guy's do this that is where the idea came from. When they were done doing it by hand in their garage their warp drive still produced less vibrations and harmonics than any of the wide blade props. I would run this set up myself but I constantly change my set up and also change pitch often to run N20 and I hate adjusting 10 or 12 blades. That’s a minimum of 40 bolts to loosen and retorque along with repitching all those blades.

So this is something I could do myself?

Aren't the blades hollow? How much can I take off without running into problems?

This might sway me towards a Warp Drive....

If your wanting a warp drive just get the turbo hub and you don't have to mess with the blades.

Well, if I had the dough for the Turbo, I'd just get a Sensenich Q Series...

just figured that if you had the blades the hub don't cost that much the blades are what cost.

cc,

That's one of the selling points for that prop. I believe Classic discusses it on their site. If you can get a good deal on a used 6 blade, all you need is the hubs.

Jim

That's true.

But I wonder if I'll have the torque to turn the 6 blade with my direct drive

I don't think so. So you are going to have to buy two props, one now and one when you get the gear.

Jim

Well, I already knew that since it would have to turn the opposite direction :p

I really can only afford a wood prop right now, and there's not much getting around that.

But, if I could get a deal on a used Warp and could round the blades to make it not so fargin' noisey....that was my thinking

the thing is if you have left hand blades and a turbo hub then it's quite and all you have to do is trade some one for right hand blades or run a belt drive if you have to buy one and you already have a left hand prop just run the belt drive and that will fix the buying 2 sets of blades .

seen 2 sets of blades left and right on air boat trader a while back the hub will work for ether

Warp Drives are not hollow they are solid and all you do is round off the very end. Chris if you round off the ends of a turbo prop it even get’s quieter. I have rode on one that Bud did it was very quite. Also call me tonight I spoke with Bud and have some info for ya.
