Monthly Maintenance Reminder.......

Here's what happened to me today. I went to tighten my alternator belt today and when i pryed against my motor, it moved. After further inspection, i noticed two bolts loosely holding my rear motor bracket while the other three had vanished. Fixed it and avoided a major disaster. I thought i checked it last month but after further investigation it has been six.

Here's my idea. Now i know it is our responsibility to maintain our own boats, but sometimes i lose track of time. How about we get flashing banners or something on here for like the first week of every month reminding us of maintenance check ups. This would also make us check certain things we take for granted and ignore. Just an idea. Let me know what ya think.......

Darn right Duckluv.
I don't know how many times I've thought about the need to check my alt, and starter mounts, prop bolt torque, ext.

Just seems like thinking about it, never happens when I'm anywhere near the boat.
Starters, and alternators falling off, is usually the cause of most propeller related disasters.

I'm usually a little reluctant to hit the starter button, if the boat has'nt been cranked in a while. I'm looking for tools I forgot, or any thing that may have been placed in the cage while I was'nt looking. Can't be to careful. Besides, I can't afford a new prop, or fix the collateral damage that would probably occur.

Main point is safety of passengers, or bystanders.
Nice post Duckluv.

Every time I take my boat out I do a "pre flight inspection" and I always tell other operators to do the same. It only takes a couple minutes to save you a bunch of time and money.

*Always look for nuts and bolts on the floor in the back. If there is one, find out where it came from before you take off.
*Check your prop.
*Check your motor mounts.
The list goes on but I'm sure you get the idea. Just because you have brass lock nuts doesn't mean things can't wiggle loose.

Good Post Duckluv
