more 4 cylinder stuff

Without asking questions, I would never learn!!! So, I saw that Steve Jurnigan 4 cylinder 3 blade airboat had a turbocharger on it. So, how is he keeping it cool? I always pondered the idea of a turbo or a supercharger, but heard through this website, that they would over heat.

Second question, if I were to bore out my 4 cylinder GPU to accept GITSU 520's, is the hole pattern affected, or do they just bolt on? Also, can the work be done without spliting the case? I would stuff with rags and flush afterwards?

Here in Waco, Texas, not to many aircraft boats around!!!!

Thanks yall.

You can do the same conversion as the six cyl. the bolt pattern is the same. Just need to bore the case. Not sure but ithink steve jurnigans boat runs some type of charge air cooler. I have only seen it at the quiet airboat demo. Call jc stanley he does alot of the gpu conversions.407-927-9701

0470 jugs will bolt right on pistons an pins fit also about 25 to 35 hp depending on piston dome

So what about the case. Can I bore it out without taking the case apart? I would take the bottom half off, just didnt want to take the cam and crank out. The deal is, I just want alittle more power. Thats why i was looking into the turbo's again (which should give me about 50hp). Did not really want to go with NOS because I want a possible third person to ride (if needed a ride), and would need the power all the time.

I will still call JC, but like everyones opinion.

I am addicted to airboats!!!!!

Thanks, Brent

Therer is a tool out there(not for aircraft) that is called a cylinder ridge cutter. I have seen some pretty good size ones too. You just might be able to get one of the bigger ones in for diesels and cut the case holes out without splitting them.

You are going to have to protect the other guts from any cuttings though. A single one in the wrong place can cause the engine to self distruct.

Heres the catch though. The center of the hole has to remain in the exact same place. You might be able to fabricate something to center it from the studs the cylinder bolts to. Easy does it, just like a cat eatin a grind-stone.

If I was home I'd help ya fab a tool for that, cause I have been looking at a 4 cyl GPU conversion as well. For a new build for me though I'm about convinced I'd be money and time ahead to just go with an IO-360. In your case you already have the GPU so your one or more steps ahead of me.
