Law catches up with airboats
Airboats will ride with closer scrutiny from Jefferson Parish authorities now that the governor has signed into law Senate Bill 235 by Sen. Chris Ullo, D-Marrero.
The bill gives Jefferson Parish and its cities the authority to regulate and license commercial and recreational airboats.
Local and parish ordinances have been adopted in the past, only to be ruled unenforceable by courts. The bill gives local and parish officials the power to inspect airboats, charge an inspection fee and regulate the hours they operate and how fast they can travel.
Blanco signed the bill June 21 and it took effect immediately.
