more prop questions

hello guys, recently purchased a 16 foot airgator, that will be powered by a 500 caddy direct drive. question is, 3 blade sensenich or (how many) blade warp drive? my primary goal is not top speed (sorry waterthunder) but most push and least amount of prop noise. maybe a multi-hub warp is the ticket, with stepped blade pitch?

all input is very much appreciated-thanks in advance !!!!!

From what I have seen and heard Warp drive props are very noisey and a three blade sensenich or powershift would be much better.I know powershift has a new prop out that I saw that is very wide and is supposed to have good power and low noise at low RPM.

I had a 6 blade warp drive on my direct drive 500 cad. It was twice the prop of the wood paddle prop i had. I felt it was a good combo because i could use more rpm aroung 3000 to get a little closer to the peak torque of the engine, i dont know the rpm limits of the 3 blade, but i was told by warp drive that their prop around 3100 loses effiency due to cavitation. After about a year i noticed cracks in the nickel ring at the base of the blades which according to warp drive was due to the harmonics of the direct drive engine, so i put on a wood prop and sold the boat. As for the noise i always wear ear plugs and muffs so it didnt bother me.

I wonder how those turbo warp props would work for your application.
From what was posted on a recent post these props seem to be very quiet. Does anyone have one of these on a direct drive. And if so how many ponies and torque should you have.

I've got the narrow 78" three blade Sensenich. I don't have much to compare it to. I had a wood paddle prop first. But I can tell you it is a lot quieter and is very easy to adjust the pitch. It takes less than fifeteen minutes with a torque wrench and a angle finder. I've got a 15' Hoffman River Master and a direct drive 500 Caddy. So far it's been amazing at the snap this prop has and differences how this boat performs at the different pitch settings and I still have yet to hit the opitum setting for this boat. The only problem that I had was not knowing how low on the settings you could go. I thought I had a motor problem by not turning up to peak rpms at 3000. I started at the recomended setting at 2 1/2 mark and could only turn upto 1600 rpm max. I've changed to a 1 1/2 and it does wonders but not at 3000 rpm yet. I will change that this weekend and try it if this wind will lay down.

I run a 6 blade turbo warp drive on my boat it is very quite the round 6 blade is really niosey. the turbo hub cuts the noise way down .I have it on a 350 with a box and when it is running all you hear is the engine but on video you can hear a little whistle coming off the prop when crusing . It is the quitest on that i've heard

T-REX IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A LH 8OIN. 8-BLADE WARP DRIVE IT ON A 2 TO 1 454.

For me there is no doubt on a direct drive car motor a Warp drive is the way to go. I have seen several direct drive that couldn’t run over a Lilly pad with a wood prop. But when they switched to a warp drive they ran respectable. It sucks a warp drive makes that noise that is more irritating than a dentists drill. But hey you can’t have everything. Now if Bud’s Turbo warp drive works as good or better than a Warp drive in a direct drive configuration. It would be a sweet set up and you would have the best of both worlds.

Waterthunder saw your boat today looks good.they finaly started on my hull today. I have the turbo warp drive and it is sure quite but I still want to try a 3 blade.

if a turbo warp drive is a viable option, what size and how many blades should i be looking for.....and how would that compare to a 72" sensenich three blade??

thanks again

Which props. is going to push harder? A 84" 4 blade set at 12 dregrees at 5000 rpm on 2 to 1 belt or a 3 blade 82" set at 15 dregrees. at 5000 rpm which is going to push the boat faster? Same make of prop.

You would probably get more snap out of the 3 blade, 82 inch, if both were set at the same pitch. I would think you would get more speed and thrust from the longer blade.

This is for sensenich only - They claim each pitch mark change on their narrow blade will make about 150 RPM change in the motor, FOR EACH BLADE on the prop. Change from a 2 to 3 mark on a three blade, and you should drop your RPM by about 450. Go from 2 to 1 and RPMs will should jump about 450 RPMs.

In my opinion, it seems a longer blade will generate more thrust, as well as more blades typically generate more thrust (up to a point). However, they take longer to spool up to maximum RPMs.

Silver surfer are you talking about top speed at 400ft (track distance) or just top speed over a long distance. Also there is a major difference with prop length between water and ground

CCHARDT I’m sure you will love your new Hamant hull. I have built three motors for people with Hamant hulls. A 350 HP 4.3 V6 that thing was a beast then a 525 HP small block it was a badder beast then they built a hull for my own 618HP small block. All three ran awesome right out of the box. The other hull’s I have owned took months of tweaking and they never ran as good as my Hammant not even my step hull. My boats getting close I hope to get my rigging back Monday. I love the job they did on my new rigging. Most boat riggers stick with the same type of rigging for decades that’s what I like about the Hamant stuff it has an artistic or unique side to it. If everything goes right I hope to make it March 26th . Hope to see you there!!!!!!!!!!!!!

waterthunder what time about will it start. I need to start taking my boat apart to finish my motor stand and seat package for the new hull sence they told me to change motor mounts and use there kind I have to use my motor and box to build it. I'm tring no to take my boat apart until after next weekend.

waterthunder I was talking top speed ,not a 400ft run. I am looking for alot of push to move a heavy boat.

Waterthunder...just curious but why do you like the warp drive for direct drive auto applications? And what about GPU's(the 150 and 220hp)? I have the 150 and a friend has the 220 both with wood props. Both of us are considering changing soon. Just curious about what you think. Thanks

A direct Drive car motor doesn’t develop any torque because it can’t turn enough RPM’s. A Warp Drive doesn’t push as much air at lower RPM’s as a wood or wide blade Composite props. A Warp Drive prop needs to turn higher RPM’s for it to really push. So it allows a car motor to reach a higher RPM before it must develop torque. They work great together. I better be more specific A small block Chevy loves a Warp Drive an OLD’S,CADDY and BUICK can develop enough torque that they run good with a wide blade.

waterthunder, someone told me that heavier boats dont do very well with warp drives, in regards to 500 caddy direct....does this make since?
are you or anybody else "out there" going to be at the broward airboat show this weekend?

Waterthunder about what time on next sat will it start .I pick up my new hull tomorrow but it won't be done for sat
