More ratio talk

Since Franklin is so limited on there ratio's has anyone looked into what it would take to build a smaller lower pully to put on a CH 2 or CH 3. I know you would be limited as to how small you could make the drive pully because of the belt making a sharp bend.

Is the drive pully even removable from the flex plate or is it all one pressed together unit?

with out seeing it in person I would image that the drive pulling is a small as it can get without effecting the belts if you where to change out my guess would be the larger pulley. they spend a lot of time to develop this stuff and during that they look at the most cost effect ways witch means the smallest lest material and cost possible to get the desired preference

I agree a large top pulley would be better. The problem is the case won't allow for a larger pulley.

Does any one know what the difference is between the Franklin 2:1 and the 2.3:1? I would have to think they are using the same case with different pulleys.

When I talked to them recently, they commented that the limiting factor was that the 2.3 lower pulley was as small as they could get for proper running of the belt. He did say that they were looking into how to obtain a higher ratio e.g.--new housings, upper pulley etc.

I don't know much about the franklin belt drive units. Can you change the ratio from 2:1 to2.3:1 by just changing the pulley and belt? If so does anybody have an idea about what it would cost.

yes you can change a 2/1 to a 2.3/1 by changing the lower pulley assembly and flexplate. I think it is somewhere in the neighborhood of 600-650 plus you have to change to a shorter belt which is around 200-300 I think.

john,
all the ratios basically are are one size pulley or gear compared to the other size the trick would be where to get the parts and how big of pulley or gear the housing can accommodate

How your boat coming :?:
