I PUT MY EGT IN TODAY BETWEEN THE SMOKE DEALS ! HAD TO PUT IT IN THE COLLECTOR WHICH IS 44 INCHES FROM THE HEAD ! I MEASURE THE TEMP DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE PROBE AND 1 IN FROM THE HEAD ! CAME UP WITH ONLY 60 DEGREE LESS DIFFERENCE AT THE PROBE ! AT A FAST IDLE ! YALL THINK THIS DIFFERENCE WILL REMAIN THE SAME TO WIDE OPEN BANG !OR WILL THE DIFFERENCE CHANGE MORE UP THE SCALE !JUST LOOKING FOR A HAPPY MEDIUM ! I GOT TIRED OF GUESSING !THIS WAY I WILL KNOW WHAT HAPPENING ! I WILL TUNE BY TEMP S ! OR MAYBE I AM GETTING RUSHES FROM THE 70 S ! AND SAVE A LITTLE FUEL MAYBE ! THANKS YALL ! :shock:
 
AUTO GAUGE 0 TO 1600 ( REAL TIME ) JUST GOT TIRED OF REJETTING ! I WANT A LEAN CRIUSE AND A FAT BANG ! THIS WAY I CAN MILL ME SOME METERING RODS ! LIKE I WANT SORT OF ! THIS WAY NO GUESSING ! AND NO ALUMINUM DUST GOING OUT MY EXHAUST ! :shock:
 
IT DOES CHANGE TEMP[S THAT IS ! IDLE ITS OFF 60 DEGREES ! 2000 ABOUT A 150 3000 ABOUT 200 ! I AM MEASURING FROM 1IN FROM THE HEAD TO WHAT GAUGE READS AT 43 1N AT THE COLLECTOR ! TOO MUCH THINKING GOING ON HERE ! :shock:
 
fb, could you have bent the probe? im gonna have the same problem soon and i dont like the idea of having the probe that far away from the head, when thats not the best place for it rite ? anybody who knows more please chime in............please.
 
YOU CAN ANGLE IT IN A TUBE !WENT FOR A CRIUSE TONITE ! SEEMS THE COLLECTOR IS HOTTER THAN THE TUBES ! SORT OF HARD TO MEASURE TEMPS IN A HURRICANE ! I got a bull ship collector ! THE GASES SWIRL AND BURN !IF THE HEADER DESIGN ISNT RITE IN THE COLLECTOR ! OFF SELVES HEADERS SUCK DONT MATTER WHO MAKES THEM FOR OUR DEAL !I WILL KEEP TRYING !!
 
The only way to know is to try it on a proven combo in the same areas. It will also matter if the headers have been coated or not and what material they are made of as some may dissipate heat better than others.
 
RICHARD THE COLLECTORS I HAVE SEEMS TO BE HOTTER THAN AT THE HEAD SOUNDS STUPID ! BUT ITS HARD TO TEMP IN A HURRICANE ! I AM BUILDING MY HEADERS NOW ! BUT THE ONES I HAVE IS BS ! I THINK THE GASES ARE SWRILNG IN MY COLLECTOR ! BAD DESIGN !MY WAY OF THINKING THE COLLECTOR IS THE HOTTEST SPOT OR THE ONLY THING THATS GLOW AT NIGHT ! ! THAT WERE THE PROBE IS ! JUST MY THINKING
 
why not weld an elevated bung on the primary tube so about only half an inch of your prob is in the tube?
 
thats a sound solution crow, but how come everybody else with a egt probe isnt haven problems with the probes bein too long ??
my lady friends love my long probe!!!! :D
 
I am building new headers Crow ! Just a test to see how things work ! I always go the hard way ! Hell you ought to know that by now ! The collector glow a little at nite pushing it so i thought thats only place that glowed should be the hottest point ! My old set just like yours ! They are junk to short! Where they jion the collector look at the angle the tubes go in ! It swirls un burnt gas ! Bad deal Just off the selfves deal ! I am building a eds header deal ! by his specs ! You can get on his site ! too much for me to explain ! thanks WISH THE BETTER HALF A HAPPY DAY YOU TOO T !
 
fb, ive got the same length probe youve got , and its the same that comes with every egt gauge setup period. there has to be a simple way to make it work in a inch an three quarters or two inch primary tube, besides a extension tube on the outside of the primary.unless the norm on these gas motors is to place it in the collectors, which no one has stepped forward to say................fb, show us some pics of your under construction headers-pretty please !!!!!!!! ill keep askin till we see um !! :)
 
HEY I HAVE A CRAZY IDEA!!

What about putting the EGT probe in the Exhaust crossover that runs through the intake?????????? Who cares if it blocks off half the passage, hell allot of guys weld that sucker shut any way. If you weld the cross over shut on your Edlbrock intake it is suppose to be good for 10-20hp.
