Muffler and Noise issues

I have been watching about noise concerns and the use of mufflers on airboats. All the issues have been about Florida laws. I am very concerned that these issues may trickle in to Georgia lawmakers thinking. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) boating laws now state. “ The exhaust of every internal combustion engine used on any boat must be muffled or baffled and water injected (except those engines that exhaust through the lower unit or outdrive when the vessel is on plane) so as to decrease noise.

The most important and the question of concern is the following. “Enforcement officials are authorized to submit boats to noise level tests and cite boat operators whose boats are not in compliance.

Sniper I hope you are around for this one. Do you run with mufflers on your boat?

Does anyone know what compliance is? Is Georgia at the 50@90 now?

Are the mufflers that Classic and Diamondback sell classified as real mufflers?

Are the tunable baffles that Mr. Dixon sells ok or are these to be water injected and if so how in the world are you to water inject baffles on an airboat exhaust system?

HELP

Yes I have mufflers on my boat and it is a Diamondback boat and the only time from what I am told that DNR will make an issue abot mufflers is one if you are running around without them and two if you are causing problems and making an ass of your self the issue of water running through the exhaust has never been a issue with me and DNR see's my boat all the time just don't be an outlaw and run some kind of muffler and you should not have any problems. there is so few of us up here that we are not as big an issue as it is in Florida and we do not have as many Yankees around to complain on us as Florida does yet.

Thunder,
I was in Melbourne yesterday (Mothers Day). You can have it. I Come on up here 20 plus years and love it. Fishing and hunting is great. People leave you alone. The county I live in doesn't even have buliding codes or a building inspector. It took a little getting used to after moving up here from Melbourne in1985. If you own land you can do with it what you want, build what you want and how you want it.

Sniper,
Thanks, I will put mufflers on it as not to make DNR upset. Those boys can make you have a bad day if you have a big lizard in your boat. No sence in making them look harder at you.

It sounds like a place I heard about in history class I think they called it America. Can you ride a boat or put things in your yard with out the authorities fining you.

Yes, you can even put those pink flamingos in the front yard if you feel home sick. They were a little clannish to begin with because they don’t know you. BUT when they do get to know you they can’t do enough for you. This area knows the true meaning of southern hospitality as I beleave all of Georgia does. COME on up we would love to have ya. Airboaters are a novelty. They even pull off the highway to look at your boat when you are getting gas. I've let many people sit in the seat when I was getting gas. A little PR never hurt.

I was up there a few mouths ago to see some family. I have some family
up there thatn don't even have tags on there trucks. Wewas drivin all over
town I was just waiting to get pulled, it never happined. I asked my cuz if the cops messed with him? He told just don't be stupid you'll be ok.

Not to get off track, but where is there to airboat in GA? I'm thinking of moving there and that is one of my big concerns.
Thank you,
Duece

Oh No KC,

Tell me it ain't so!

I've been saving my pertty Caterpillar stainless 4in mufflers for almost ten years thinking I would need them someday. Finally I can use them upstack on the Airboat & they said what? These suckers are now upto almost $200 dollars apiece. :(

Dammitall, I'm gonna doit anyhow even if I have to ride in the rain all the time. How else can you do that? How bout a water pistol? :D

Those people have entirely too much time on their hands.

Thanx Gben

What part of ga might this be I wonder if I can pass the surveyors lisc. exam up there Hmmm maybe somethin to look in to.

Hey Sniper,

Please....Can we send a couple of thousand, (I mean a couple of hundred thousand) of our yankees your way! Life would sure be much easier for us down here!

Bobby got my diamondback running like a champ! Hope to see you maybe next year! Can I bring a couple of the "noise ordinance" yankees for a ride down the "Deliverance"?!

Stay safe in your pursuit of all the good, right things!

Jeff

I’m seriously preparing to leave Melbourne whithin 5 years. It’s too crowded and getting too expensive. I’m looking for a place where people only worry about their yard and Georgia or Alabama are both looking good to me now. Everything I do in Florida has become way over regulated or just made illegal and now it doesn’t matter if I go out in my offshore boat or airboat I’m going to get hassled by law enforcement. I just want to enjoy the weekends outdoors with my family.

I live in south east Ga. about 1 1/2 hours north of Jax. Fl.. I run on one of the largest rivers in Ga. the Altamaha. There is not a lot of swamp running but during the summer months it gets very low with plenty of sandbars. We have lots of frogs and gators and very good fishing. The coast is tidal with salt marshes. You can run there but not on the grasses just the shallows and mud flats. In south west Ga. is where Dixon Airboats are in a town called Bainbridge on or around lake Seminole. Sniper runs up around Atlanta I think. There is plenty of places to run up here, there is just not many of us.

I run the chattahoochee and the flint river and I can 50 or 60 miles on the Chatt and never see another boat or person it's like having your own privat river and the flint has a large swamp and I agree with KJC airboats are a real attention getter up here especially one painted up like mine and the ladies realy think it is cool.I have folks in cars all most run off the road looking at it all the time and it is to my knowledge the only Airboat that I know of in Law Enforcement's hands in the whole state DNR does not have the first one all they have is john boats with Honda jet drive outboards and yes South Georgia or the Georgia Mountains is the place to live and be left a lone.

Hey Sniper, I just noticed your home town of Fairburn. I am in south FL now but did some stomping in your neck of the woods. I lived in Jonesboro, Fayetville, College Park just to name a few. Do the kids still congregate in the parking lots and over at the mall? I wish I could get back up that way but a job and 3 kids have me tied to the big city. The weather is great but the way of life ain't what I'm used to. I never knew anybody to "shoot the hootch" in an airboat. Must be a blast.

WT, I recently sold a 1/4 acre lot on a canal with lake access on Lake Seminole for $25K. It was a corner lot with water on two sides but mostly trailers in that area. There was an airboat right across the canal. Just down the road were some bigger homes on about 1/2 to 1 acre lots. I did not see any real big lots. There is a real estate agent in Bainbridge who specializes in lake property. If you are really interested I'll try to dig up her card if I still have it. Think it was called Lake Property or Lake Real Estate.

Please do I would greatly appreciate it. Heck just three years ago I bough one acre on the St.Johns Melbourne for $42,000 and built my house now the same exact piece of vacant land sells for $200,000. I really can’t afford what’s happening here so I’m looking for a laid back undeveloping area to move to before Melbourne becomes a carbon copy of Orlando or West Palm. I don’t know what’s worse the retirees who want too turn everything into a retirement area and golf coarse or the people moving in that don’t speak a lick of English. Either way my home town no longer exists, I think I’m one of only three natives in all of Brevard County.

I live on a deep water creek that runs into the Altamaha River. I have to go about 200 yards to be in the main run of the river. Like Sniper I can run for 25 to 30 miles and not see a half dozen people. The other way towards Macon you can run 250 miles. The lot I bought was 1.25 acres on high bluff with .5 acres at water level. We built a floating dock and a small cook house. The lots on the water when you can get one is around 30k the lots in the same area just not on the water is 15k. These are in the county but in a semi subdivision with restrictions such as no trailers. There are many other locations close or on the water. Cost of living is moderate the manufacturing industry keeps this a little higher than you would expect. This town needs a bowling alley and a good honest mechanic. If no one opens a bowling alley up in a year I will. And I saved the best for last. We still have a drive-in that shows 1st run movies and the kids still sneek in.
