At long last, peace may be at hand in the long-running battle between airboat users and those who cringe at the ear-splitting sounds the craft emit as they travel the Citrus County waterways.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission last week voted unanimously to require that all airboats be "effectively muffled."
This ruling has the potential to quell the troubled waters that have roiled over the years as more people have moved into homes along the local rivers and lakes where airboat operators have long enjoyed their pastimes. The population boom, of course, has meant more airboaters, too.....
