under pressure

Well-known member
We have got to shut these boats up somehow! Or we will have to shut them OFF for good! Lets find the problems with mufflers and fix them so we can deal with the yankees! Things are not like they used to be, Im sorry. We have got to change because old people wont.

Careful now Pressure,

you almost pinched my toes on that one :D
I'm abt tobe 67 & my $400 worth of Caterpillar stainless mufflers says sheee quiet. And to keep the prop away from the little sonic booms we're looking at the power plus that turns a max abt 2450.
Now if we can just get the right diesel that don't exceed 2450 we'll be hush sure nuff. 8)

Thanx Gben

Very much so :( . Where the hell are the prop Mfg. during all this. I have not seen anything from them. The yankees will bitch as we idle through the no wake zones next, believe me. I will have a post on the prop Mfg. next. THANK YOU

Hey Under pressure
The top three Prop MFg have designed new props that push more Air at Lower RPM's. THey have been working to help make props as quiet as possible. As an Airboat MFG I must say that we put mufflers on 99.9% of all boats that leave our shop. We have a very large Stainless Muffer with an 18" Barrel to help reduce noise as much as possible. I do wish that more people would run a quality muffler and help limit their noise levels. I think the poeple who feel like they can make as much noise as they want are the ones causing everyone else problems.

Check out the New Props by Powershift, Whirl Wind, and Sensenich.
They have very large blades that we run on the 2.3:1 at a max RPM 2100.
I have been thrilled with the performance and the noise reduction.

Thanks Faron, From what I read in the Airboat World article none of the props tested passed the new anticipated rules. That scares me. I am building a boat right now and will purchase the prop last so i pick the best one. Most boats sound better with mufflers anyway but some people just dont care. I wanted to hear some actual reasons why some boaters do not run mufflers and try to relieve thier anxiety. I feel the motor makes more noise at low RPM's and the props at high RPM's. Maybe we can fix both ends of the range. Thank You

I am surprised nobody mentioned the Q series Sensenich prop. They are supposed to be very quiet up to 2500 RPM.

I also am surprised that anyone would NOT want to put mufflers on their boat. What can it hurt? At least you can idle away from the boat ramp without making any more noise than a ski boat.

Don't be suprised that some folks will not install mufflers on their boats! While walking around at the Palm Beach show, i asked several owners that were showing them off, why they don't have mufflers.Answer, similar to "I will give up my gun when they pry my cold dead fingers from it". Nothing wrong with owning guns, i own several. But the mentality of some of these boat owners is gona kill us all. Don't understand em. I think these clubs should ban unmuffled boats from competition. Maybe that will wake em up. The shows will still have plenty of boats to show. Also, it will show who cares enough to be responsible to ride another day. Just my thoughts.

Gentelmen, yall rite on the people that just dont care.about nobody but themselves .If ask around or look ,At the prop people they are trying.I am not happy with the numbers they are coming with, but like anything esle its up to us . To try to improve on what we got to deal with !I just added 5000 to my new boat .Which i am not happy about ,but trying to comply .I have seen about three boats that will make the hush that we need .Mr pressure is rite we all got try to comply. nothing new for us always living by someone esles rules .But if dont stop the people that making us look bad . And yall know who yall are ,we need to get togather and try .Not just here its spreading all over .Like the man says so we can keep them. thanks :?Just think ! I used to be stupid and now just foolish! :D

I was at acamp out with some friends this weekend. there was a airboat there that NO mufflers on it , it was so loud that I could here him 3 or 4 miles down in marsh. There was other boats there that was not all that loud. That left the camp and was just a few hundred yards from the camp, and it was quit at the camp. This guy never came back to camp why I was there, I was going ask him to invest in a set of mufflers.

I think that all the Airboat clubs need to make it mandatory that to be a member you must have mufflers on your boat that is what it is going to take to get some of these people to wake up.

Sniper,

I wish that could happen, but I have my doubts. Did you read this post?

The airboaters have pushed this so far that Citrus county now has a rather unreasonable penalty for curfew violations. I fear that this will happen more and more if the airboaters do not use their heads on these issues. The old saying "I found the enemy and he is us" applies here.

There are speed limits all over FL for similiar reasons. There is a hot boat meet in Palatka the first weekend in June and they have a pinata shaped like a manatee to bash.

I thought that it was a great sound running open headers it sounds like a race car I said that I would never put mufflers on my boat. Then went on the FAA trail ride and was the only boat out there that was the loudest after that I said that muffler would be the way to go so I ordered some for my boat and will see how I like them. I have decided that the FWC boats that run around here you can't here them until there next to you so that's how I want mine to sound now
