My buddies Mini

WE got the boat down over the weekend and I started it Sunday and worked on it a little this evening. He bought a wooden boat and took all the rigging off to put on a 14 ft double wide. I got the motor, cage, and rudders on tonight. Hopefully, I'll get the steering and seating done tomorrow. He's using a 20 hp vanguard. I'll get a few pics tomorrow, my camera battery was dead tonight.

Sorry gold, I'll get some tomorrow. We're trying to have it ready for the weekend. I'm also making some changes to the reduction unit I made as I found a good source of bearings used on large industrial fans. He got antsy and wanted the boat going so we just put the cage on that was with the rigging. We can only fit on a 42 inch prop now. I may have a line on another boat so I may just build another one to test my reduction unit.

The boat has a seat at the rear and a side deck going to the transom on each side, so I made a frame for the stand and mounted it all to the seating. The whole rig can be taken off in about an hour. This is a light boat, it should go well. I found out that I don't care for building a boat for someone else that is faster than mine  He is going to use my old prop til he gets his new one. I told him that he should take it easy with the beat up prop. This is just so I can keep up!

Another thing is these boats are so thin that there are two holes in it from rubbing the trailer. I'll stick with my tank.

ya that is why I started doing my duckboats in hard alloys and thicker material so it could handle me :D after your buddy pops a few holes in there he'll be ready for you to build him a new hull :D

I was going to keep this one an almost took the jackplate off this one and and did a mini but needed the money I was offered an sold it

Looking foward to seeing the photos could you take a few photos of how you hung the rudders and how you connected the controle surfaces pleeeeeees im kinda stuck on this one

pappe,
I just love seeing pictures of stuff, it helps motivate me some times :D but it would be really cool to have ya'll posting the build in progress pictures so others could see step by step the different way everyone makes things happen and maybe help them with there own mini project

cajun,
no that was .90 5052 aluminum I designed to run a 1" of water and cross a few on those spots , no problems but it did wear the paint off the bottom

This really isn't a build, we are just moving rigging over and adapting it to the new boat. The setup for the rudders really isn't to bad, I'll get some pics after I have it all together.
Here's a quick pic.

yea but there's two mini's in the one pic. :D I just came in for a break, I got the steering rod attached to the rudders now, got the seat stand started also. I only have the stick to mount yet then go back and weld everything, grind some of the sharp edges and just clan everything up. He's going to stop by tomorrow while I'm at work and hook up the gas line and do a few things to the trailer.

I still need to make some braces for the rear of the motor stand and a few other things but I should be done for the weekend.

There's two easy ways on controlling the rudders, one is shown in the pic above and another is using a pulley and cable system, this is what I use on my boat. There is a bracket on the transom that holds the rudder and on the rudder shaft is a large pulley. The cable goes around the large pulley to 2 smaller ones at the front making a long oval. The stick is attached to one of the cables with the pivet point about 1/3 of the length up the stick. The cable ten attaches to the bottom of the stick.

How easy was it to get up on plane? Did ya get an idea of what kind of speed it will cruise at?What else can you tell us about it? Thanx, Cajun

We still have a few bugs to work out, his motor won't run any faster than about half throttle and I need to shim his motor a bit. It will plane but won't stay there because of the throttle right now. I'll have more info next weekend when we get the bugs fixed. He's running my old prop so we won't know top end speed until he gets his new prop. He can't quite keep up with me so I'm guessing about 18 mph right now.

He's giving me a compass  We stopped mid river to talk(it was very foggy) and my boat must have turned without me knowing and I headed back to the boat ramp! I came up on a rock and noticed the river was flowing the wrong way. I have a feeling I have not heard the end of this.

   Yep you probably right about that. And thanx for keeping all of us informed on your progress at your end. Cajun
