Need 500 piston

Anybody have or know where I can get a stock 10.5/1 "peanut" piston or even a whole set without buying a whole parts engine?? Broke a ring land on a piston and I can't seem to locate one. Any help would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!

Thought I had a set, but after going out and looking they end up being the soap dishes, and not the peanuts.

A good source I've used over the years is Egge Machine. 866-996-3443 Their part number for the piston you're after is L2367.
Never had a problem getting what I needed from them, but those early model higher compression ones may be getting to be a different story at this late date. I'd give them a call and see though, they may very well have a few on the shelf.

What you're after is on page 11, top left hand corner.

Thanks a lot, Deano! I will certainly check them out. I'm so ready to get this thing redone and back on the water. Been too long without my ride.

Tim get that boat up and running, there are people in Florida getting hungry waiting on your return.

I hear ya, boys! I'm doing my best. I hope I can make it this year. Losing that piston is putting a damper on funds. Don't worry, I will let everyone know when I can make it and we will do it up even better next time!

:angry5: well, I was gonna try to load a couple pics, but my laptop will no longer allow me to get on SA for some reason. My point...I should be fully honest about the whole financial situation. Lol After the engine failure, a friend ran across a deal I couldn't pass up on a 19 ft center console fishing boat, so I'm also paying for that. Couldn't pass up $6,500 for it with a jam up 90 horse merc. Can't buy the engine for that! Lol Hopefully I can get it all straight and be in a position to come down in late spring. I will certainly keep y'all posted. I miss hanging out and riding with my FL buddies!!

Congratulations on the Center Console, I believe we can wait till late spring, just gives a little more time for planning.

Did you have no luck with Egge?
What size are you after anyway; Std, +30, or something else?
Could put out some feelers, but don't know exactly what you are after.

Deano, it's stock. Hasn't been bored out. Haven't called Egge yet. I am waiting til I get paid tomorrow. That way if they have them I can go ahead and order. Hopefully I will get it located and on the way.

Thanks, Robo. I'm looking forward to some time in the flats fishing. Too bad it's impossible to pull 2 boats or I'd bring them both this spring. Lol

Been off the grid for a bit, but I'm back on the boat. Got a new set of pistons, now I have to finish tearing down the engine and get it bored 30 over. Hopefully I'll be back on the water before the weather gets cold. Lol

Looks like we're both going to be ready to hit the Swimming Hole soon! I'm thinking the day after your next boil at Mack's!

That's a big 10-4, diggin!!! That's probably my favorite ride to date. I love the long ride and cypress tunnels. I can't wait to do it again

If I had to bet more than 50% of the piston / head gasket and rod bearing problems with a Cadillac 500 are directly fuel related.

Ya best use good fuel and add some race fuel for insurance if your running 8.5 to 1 or higher in the heat with any real timing.

Yep. I run av gas in the mix. I'll likely have to toss out the av gas i have on hand since it will be a year since purchase before I can use it

Swamp,

I will vouch for Radtech on this one, we both loaded up on 100 Octane AV gas before the last Mack's ride. He bought it to mix with 93 pump gas, I bought in bulk.

One thing he mentioned to me was a concern with mixing too much AV gas with the hi test based on someone telling him too much would raise cylinder temps. Does this make any sense?

That said, you could still be correct on this part:

Rad was having carb issues when he came down here. I could bad mouth a Caddy parts vendor (one THAT IS NOT Buddy Branch) but I won't. Suffice it to say that Rad had gotten screwed by a vendor who had sent him a seriously defective rebuilt Qjet carb. We took it apart and it looked like it had been hammered together by a team of monkeys. Just a couple of examples (how do you get aluminum shavings on the carb side of the filter??).

Unfortunately all I had was older model QJets so the jets would not interchange. We put the largest jets we had on hand into a carb off a mud truck. The boat ran great but was lean on the top end.

Radtech did exactly what most others (myself included) would do when starting a 2 week vacation. Screw it, let's go. :thumbleft:

I believe that 2 weeks of running lean is what started all of this.

I'm sure you are correct, brother! There's also a high likelihood that my buddy at Seminole put crap gas in it while it was down there after the trip. In any case, yes! I will continue to use high test NE and add either av gas or racing fuel to it. The other issue it yo get it gassing right when it gets back together. Damn, I'm ready to be back on the water!!!
