need advice holley vs zenith on GPU

This is from an earlier post:

Chuck at Airboat Pros
The Zenith carb is a more expensive carb than the Holley, but they are cheap due to
so many people changing to holley to get the benefit of a mechanical accelerator
pump. The Zenith accelerator pump works on vacuum. Only works when the engine
is running. This carb being set-up for a generater, is set rich on the idle circuit to warm the engine quick to get the generator online. To make it idle all day and not
load up, remove the top cover and on each side of the black rubber pump plunger is a
small brass jet called the Idle Air Bleeds. Drill these bleeds out to .063 thousandths.
This lets more air into the idle circuit.
To make the Zenith accelerate faster, remove the float bowl and gasket from the base.
Look for the 2 small brass jets ( sqirters ) toward the rear of the base. They are angled toward the center of each bore. Drill them out to .043 thousants. This will
give a larger shot of fuel on acceleration. You will notice the difference. The
hesitation will be gone. CHUCK

Hands down a Holley you can buy a bran new one that will perform better and wasn't used at Kitty Hawk when Orval Wright flew for the first time! Plus everybody knows how to work on a Holley and any part you need for it will be new and just a phone call away!

I have heard that a hundred times but in the other way. I can tell you I have owned an ran two boats that had 220GPU's on both I removed the Zenith and replaced it with a Holley both boats started better and snaped better.

I have a nice Zenith I'd trade for a Holley 500 if anyone thinks they are so good. This one was freshly overhauled on my spare PE-150. The overhaul was in the 1980's. Woody, you can send me the worst Holley 500 you can find and I'll trade my Zenith. I'll pay shipping both ways and you can run circles around those Holley's.

DES IF I HAD A STOCK 220 I WOULD TRADE YOU.SINCE I HAVE INJECTION NAN.I RAN MY 220 WITH THE ZENITH ANY DAY BEFORE I WOULD PUT A HOLLY ON IT. I HAD NO PROBLEMS OUT OF THE ZENITH.IT WAS HARD TO START AT FIRST,BUT AFTER I STARTED RUNNING AV GAS I HAD NO PROBLEMS STARTING IT.

dblj006 thanks, I'll try the changes to the zenith and compare to the holley. this gives me a base line. speedwheely if I stick to the holley I'll call you,I don't like the welded intake I'm using now!

Put a 2 barrell on over the single barrel zenith on my pe90. All I can say is what a difference.

Alright here is the scoop, I have had both and the difference is that the holley will give you better throttle response and the zenith will give you more rpm.

A new 40 year old fresh rebuilt MA carb is about twice as much as a bran new Holley I think that is a big player in why the Holley is such a good carb for these things!
