Need Help with Prop Pitch for a new hull set-up

One Eyed Gator

Well-known member
One of my bosses just bought a new gto hull. He transferred his his existing rigging motor and prop to the new hull. He owns the waccasassa fishing club. This area is nothing but rocks and the hull was built to take the punishment. It is heavy but not much heavier than his old hull. The boat will barely plane-off and is a dog compared to the last set-up. Almost feels like he's not getting any push from the prop .

The hull is 16'x8' 3/4 deck with 454/425hp motor, 2to 1 belt drive and swings a 84" 3Blade sensenich. Prop is about 4 years old, not sure what model. It is 11-3/4" at the widest point and 7-1/2"? at the tip. Not sure on the pitch. The tach shows 4200 with your foot on the floor. Old set-up would turn about 4600. The pitch was not changed from 1 set-up to the other.

Could the prop be pitch to much? What should we use as starting point for the pitch.

Just looking for some suggestions

Can a one eyed man have double vision

start by taking out some of the pitch so the prop can swing closer to 2500 rpm's
5,000 on the tach. . This should make a big difference. If not let us know and we can discuss other ideas.

Maker sure all your plug wires are one, good fuel ect..

Another thing you might want to check is how far your prop is going below the transom. You don't want go more than 6 inches if you can help it.
