Gotta 74 Caddy 500 freshly rebuilt Crane cam 750 edelbrock (1407). Edelbrock intake. Runs good but what is the proper degree of timing? Also when I shower down it revs quick to probably 2000 hesitates kinda bogs down then runs right up to 3000 would changing the springs in the carb help this? Any ideas?

caddy's like more initial timing with after market mods. this is what i run but all set ups differ. i run 14deg initail 19deg mechanical vac. advance blocked off. but i run a reduction starter so cranking pressure isn't noticed if you use a stockish type starter i don't know how well it will turn the motor over .and a stiffer spring for the secondary spring should help a mid engine bog.

Direct drive or reduction? I recommend verifying your reference mark on the lower pulley is accurate as I spent a few $$$ and dealt with numerous mechanical issues before discovering the mark was about 12 degrees advanced when it indicated TDC. I run 32 degrees total advance with vacuum advance disconnected permanently and I replaced the springs on the distributor weights with one light and one medium. I run a reducted 500. FWIW, I tried using two light springs initially but it likes the light/medium combo.

That Edelbrock will not flow enough fuel. You need the 1413 or 1412 as discussed in other threads. A cadilllac in an airboat situation, direct drive or otherwise, loves 35-36 degrees. Best, Charles

NEVER HAD A DIRECT DRIVE ! BUT THE BOG YOUR ARE TALKING ABOUT IS A LEAN DEAL SOUNDS LIKE ! NOT SMART AS SOME ON THIS .BUT LEARNING BETTER HAVE THE CARB FAT ! 1412- 13 WOULD BE BETTER ! AND ITS GOT TO BE FAT TOO ! 12% FAT TO BE EXACT ! :D AND STILL BORDER LINE !
